Ever here of parts of organizations called revenue centers and others called cost centers? Much of government, BY ITS NATURE, is in the cost center category. Converting one's effort into "production" numbers becomes an exercise in delusion. Oh, don't get me wrong. People like you have successfully force cost centers into showing unmeasurable "revenue numbers". For example, the FAA could show the value of human lives it saved every time a flight landed instead of crashing. Is that helpful, viewing their role as "production"? No. Get a clue. Your range of life of experience is pathetically narrow compared to the breadth of what happens in the federal government. Nobody could come close to even reading all the job titles, let knowing what people do.

The private sector is only part of the real world. There is a reason government works as it does. It's not all bad, either. And rashly threatening to fire endless people is just dangerously CHILDISH.

Private companies are PRIVATE. They exist for the pleasure of only the shareholders, according to US law. The government exists for ALL citizens and is not to be treated the same. Carelessly gutting institutions may feel fulfilling, but it can have profoundly negative consequences.

When your headline is talking about how other people were freaking out and you seem happy about it, it says a lot about you. What good are your policies? How can you help others who are scared of your policies find common ground with you? If you don't think that is what matters, rather than "sticking it" to people, you're a sociopath and shouldn't be leading conversations about politics.

What makes you think Elon Musk and his team have enough time or expertise to actually read those emails and evaluate an employee's value? You're a massive loser if you think he has time and expertise. He had the the seed of a great idea, and instead of planting it and watering it, he set it on fire. His plan to fix things is a mess in itself. He's a fool.

The government is not a business. The public is entitled to proper management. Some of the citizens affected by the cutbacks are the employees. Other citizens care about these employees. And, other citizens also care that rash cutbacks are not going to damage the government. ANY company that threatens to fire everybody based on their replies to an email is a company headed for a crash. Nobody with the time and training was prepared to even read all of the emails musk demanded, never mind some employees would not have time to respond. And for good reasons, some of them, not just "I don't want to."

Plenty of people can work and not accomplish their job. For example, the GOP will often intentionally underfund agencies and departments and expect them to reach unreachable goals given the budget. The GOP has often done this with the claim that such failures mean the agencies work should be outsourced to the private sector. Then the lowest bidder gets the job, cuts corners, skims off operational budgets, and the taxpayer has to pay more per service, not less. And it all starts with the government asking people to do more than the budget supports. So, YES, this can happen and does. It happens in the private sector every day as well. Your job ends up including your "stretch goals", "personal development plan", and "putting out fires", all on over time without extra pay. Sometimes it even involves pushing people to failure and acting like such a thing was good management while blaming the employees for being failures. If you had accumulated experience in life, you would know that.
