@RaceChapman - And testing the resistance of the human body to electrical heating elements in shower heads. Yes, such things exist. I have been tickled taking a shower in my wife's house in Peru. Her mother got an electrician after that. However, she only did it for me. It's considered safe and I was told I had nothing to worry about. Yeah, coming from people much less than six feet tall, I understood their perspective. They had drops of water hitting them. My head touched the shower head. That created a continuous circuit to the metal drain. Much different! The odds might still be just 1 in 30,000 that I could get killed, but those are horrendously poor odds for common tasks.

And preparatory work.

@macafadeal1 - Charisma got me to archaism.

I have had multiple plugs melt due to concentration of current through a limited amount of contact with the outlet. Anticipating such an unusual outcome is typically impossible.

@18matts - I think you are replying to the video about fan settings! :-D You can probably got passed up by YouTube autoplay of another video (this one). As for your question, the answer for those in similar situations is that sometimes it is due to design limits you can't see, but I bet the reason is that your model is a limited-option/base model while other models offer other cycles within that space instead of leaving it blank. BTW, why doesn't my fancy-shmancy dishwasher let me select a dry cycle? If too much water collects on a dish, when I open the washer, it can splash a lot of the dishes and get them wet. Then the stupid machine will not let me select a dry cycle. I can do myriad things, amazing things but I can't just dry. I hate this. It's an example of the Apple corporation attitude, that consumers are stupid and must have choices made for them.

@atomictraveller - But the PLAN is to drive you crazy hearing the 60z hum. What kills me is when architects design the shower stall width to be optimally resonant for high notes I can't reach.

@joeycampbell940 - I have many extension cords with multiple gauges, not one with a fuse. I do have an external GFCI outlet converter, though. I always use it when working outdoors so I never short the circuit to the actual ground.

@steveknight878 - Can imperfectly flat ends of each fuse end up causing even more heating of a plug due to current concentration within a thin contact point?

I worry about the "battery chargers"/power sources for laptop computers and other devices. I specifically mean the ones that connect to wall with an extended cord, and then you have the small box, and then another cord. These easily wind up covered up with papers, even slipped in between couch cushions. They generate heat and that heat can't dissipate quickly enough if the transformers are covered up. I had a charger laying on the couch and I didn't notice it slipped between some cushions as I moved around. It was quite hot when I realized it had disappeared from view. Likewise for covered extension cords under heavy use. People forget even the cords need to cool. And if a USB-to-outlet converter is on the end of a covered cord, you can bet it is getting hot. Those get hot even when uncovered if they are being used to charge a device.
