@Donna-l3s7t I don't think it is necessary to drill down to the one specific instance of their learning it. I also learned it in high school and so did my classmates, and my siblings and their classmates. From my basic knowledge of how school curricula work, I can confidently say that this is taught very broadly across the US in both public and private schools and that the same is true in Canada and many other countries. It is true that things like casualty numbers from wars 80+ years ago are not on the nightly news because they tend to dedicate their time to information that is... well... new.

@ Sorry to burst your confidence bubble but wherever it is you were taught apparently never taught you to read. My comment included "...and that the same is true in Canada..." The Holocaust is on the news because of the observance. It seems like you would have realized that if you watched the video.
