As a Turk i really wonder when exactly Turkey was 100% democratic! Turkey was never a democratic country rather it was always a weird mix, not just between democracy and authoritarianism also militarism and even communism!! For example Turkey never had 100% free market neither rather the government always kept prices under control and intervened if they became harmful for society, such as in this pandemic mask etc prices skyrockected and a damn surgical mask was several dollars but then the government intervened and fixed mask price as 20 cents and you know what every company still produces masks and earning money from it. Same goes with healthcare, education and wellfare that Turkey spends tens of billions for free healthcare and education, such as Turkey doesn't allow pharmaceutical companies to freely charge whatever they want rather they have to accept Turkish government's prices and often the government itself is cheaply buying them in bulk and offering public as free!! So Turkey's problem isn't the system at all, in fact i think Turkey has a million times better system than United States where pharmaceutical companies are charging extreme prices for essential medicine, there is no mandatory health insurance, pension liability nor even severance pay. Rather Turkey's problem is CORRUPTION, such as those billions of dollars which are spend for wellfare don't really go to the people who actually need it rather to supporters of ruling party. Government projects always benefit supporters of ruling party, government contracts are given to supporters of ruling party etc and it was always same during CHP rule etc so people don't see it as a wickedness as it should be seen. New generation wants to tackle this corruption problem and i hope we will eventually do but don't expect Turkey to become ''a true democracy'' aka a capitalist shithole rather Turkey will always remain as a weird mix which actually cares about it's citizens...

@antiulius2 Thank you very much mate, i really hope we can deal with corruption in everywhere on Earth as it is the source of many problems still causing suffering to us. It ofc clashes with entrepreneurship but Turkish government rarely intervenes to prices or keeping them in a range that it wouldn't hurt people nor companies. The most affected sector is pharmaceutical industry for sure as the government invervenes a lot in that sector and it causes foreign pharmaceutical companies to not invest into Turkey because they know they can earn far more in other countries. But still they are exporting to Turkey because even with these severely reduced prices they still profit greatly. The west knows these pharmaceutical companies earn insane amount of money but it is somehow seen as ''They will earn more so they will develop better drugs and technologies'' but im not sure how true that is. Or how humane it is especially while there are people in US literally dying because they can't afford drugs like insulin etc which are given free in Turkey!! European approach is much better than US that governments cover vast majority of the high cost so people can still afford drugs while companies earn more as well. However it creates huge expenses for those governments so it isn't exactly a solution neither.
