  1. There were quite many civil wars in Seljuk and Ottoman history as well, in fact it was the main reason why Seljuk empire collapsed. Even if i don't think killing all male relatives was a solution but it was far better than civil wars for sure..

  2. Hungarians weren't off-limits because of trust issues at all rather because they had nomadic origins. Orphans weren't off-limits neither rather there was no reason to take orphans at first place. Ottoman collected children from families who failed to pay their taxes so instead of a punishment they had to give their children. It was quite fair i think because getting beheaded was the punishment in ALL european empires...
