  1. It is correct a German historian made up ''Byzantine'' name and so called Byzantine always referred itself as Roman empire. However usage of the term has absolutely nothing about Greek independence that's just fiction. People including historians kept using made up Byzantine name simply because Roman empire survived so long it just makes everything a lot easier. When Byzantine is said everybody understands which period, which empire while Roman empire is said nobody has any idea. Even in Turkish we use it as ''Bizans'' while among all people we know such an empire never existed, separating old Roman empire and new Roman empire like this is just pratical..

  2. I have absolutely no idea how Ottoman officially banned anybody from buying lands as it had freedom of movement in it's entire history!! So either those lands were actually state lands which weren't sold to people randomly indeed or it was actually corruption at first place that officials were preventing Jews from buying lands to take bribes...
