  1. This was mandatory practice in early Ottoman armies. At least one Şehzade usually most favourable one would command one wing, while usually there were several Şehzades commanding smaller units. So even if Sultan dies in battle Şehzade commanding the wing would assume control of entire army like nothing happened. It actually happened in 1389 and Ottoman army wasn't affected at all, Şehzade was called from the wing into center under Sultan banner, that was it..
