Mongols crossed the great wall once while Turks did it like two dozen times! There are so many myths about it, first of all it wasn't a great wall at all, majority of it were just wooden walls. So it was actually quite easy to pass but the problem was the word would travel to Chinese capital within hours that the wall was breached and they began raising an army. Not that Turks nor Mongols cared much about their armies tho unless it was really large which happened several times. So it was an early warning system not an actual great wall..
