Regardless how patriotic they are you can not expect soldiers to fight forever. Ukrainian volunteers have been fighting over 2 years now and they are tired. While rest of Ukrainian population don't want to join the army especially while they are loosing. If they continued drafting for entire war the situation was never going to get this bad. Just stupid politics and this is why politicians always screw armies. It is pretty much hopeless now and Ukrainian regime must drop their pro-war stance and accept leaving Donbas etc to Russia. It is likely russians will refuse it for more but at least they can convince Ukrainians they have no option but continue fighting or get ruled by Russia..

@andrewmckenzie292 I both agree and disagree, foreign weapons aren't really a problem. I'm from Turkey we received all kinds of weapons during our independence war, from Italians, Soviets, captured weapons. I think the biggest problem was Ukrainian/western sources began acting like these 'wonder' weapons were going to win the war for them, obviously it was entirely false. 'Neutral' western sources would never ever mention but Muslim population of Anatolia dropped from 13 million in 1914 to 10.5 in 1923 because of casualties, flu pandemic, lack of supplies and atrocities. So we paid a heavy price for our independence not won by any support nor supplies. Most Ukrainians want an easy victory against a superior enemy which is just stupid and never gonna happen so very likely they will loose lands if not their independence entirely..

@andrewmckenzie292 After Ottoman surrendered Entente powers began occupying Turkish lands they occupied İstanbul and surrounding areas while shared Anatolia between themselves. French/British eastern and southeastern Turkey while Italians southern Turkey. Greeks landed on İzmir in 1919 and began occupying western Turkey while in 1920 Armenia declared war and tried to occupy northeastern Turkey. So they literally attacked from every corner and overall around 30-40% of Turkey was occupied but yeah, they could never fully capture Turkey. Italians also very quickly switched sides after Brits and French favored Greeks over them and didn't keep their promises. But even Greeks alone were outnumbering Turkish forces in every battle so it was still quite hard to fight against them all. They could almost capture Ankara but got defeated at the end. Yeah, i completely agree westerners won't support Ukraine forever and they might say 'we are out' all of sudden and abandon them. Zelenskyy was really digging a hole for Ukraine by kept claiming they would liberate Crimea etc while he could adopt a pro-peace approach and try to find a middle ground. Russian public sees him as an enemy because of this pro-war stance so Putin can really push for more. I agree pro-western Ukrainian population is nothing but trouble for Russia but FSB deals with such people in Russia too, often by people falling from windows etc. So i think most of pro-western Ukrainians might become pro-Russia over night. I really doubt Russia would sign a peace agreement and end the war because in that case what is left from Ukraine can join NATO, EU etc. They might sign a ceasefire agreement but like you said they will claim Odessa almost certainly, it won't be much better than total collapse of Ukraine..
