  1. The Afghanistan I lived in in 1971-1972 was a paradise in comparison. No Taliban, no religious extremism. It was a hard, poor but wonderful country. Women weren't forced to wear burqas, many dressed in Western clothing. Schools were filled equally with boys and girls, and there were many brilliant women studying engineering, physics, medicine, science etc., in the University of Kabul. My heart bleeds for this country which I loved.

  2. Weed grows wild everywhere in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I saw lots of it growing by sidewalks, in holes in walls, in ruins, in wild fields, in unkempt gardens, on building sites, everywhere. It is after all a local plant that has been growing there for tens of thousands of years!

  3. Yes, apart from the fact that the Shah was put in power by the CIA and he created the dreadful SAVAK with the help of the CIA. Under Mossadegh, Iran was a great place.
