Comments by "Daisy Chain" (@daisychain3007) on "Britain's Niqab: Should it be worn in the UK?" video.
@Tracey-zr5do So should mosques and other non-Christian places of worship not exist in thecUK? Is that what you are writing?

I am sorry but if we live in a free society, we have a right to wear what we like, be it hijab, niqab or skimpy clothes. A free society is one which allows you to be whom you like and, in most, but not all cases, clothes are an expression of a person's identity. If you rob them of a chance to wear what they like, you rob them of their identity. A free society means that it is free for ALL, not just for a handful of people. The world belongs to all of us.

@nelacaro57 Where is it the law to show your face? Maybe in passport photos, OK, but not in the street. If a woman chooses to cover everything up, including her face, it is her business. I have a problem with it only if she is FORCED to do so.

@RobertTaylor-gz2fu The IRA wore dark green balaclavas.

@arunaabraham6445 Many object to the hijab and abaya, neither of which cover the face. As for the niqab, do you remember the terrorist who fled to Pakistan in his sister's face veil and abaya? He was eventually caught.

It is up to the individual whether or not she wears a niqab. As long as dhr is not forced to wesr it, i have no problem with it. But I do not think that it is the niqab or hijab that is the problem here; it is hatred of Islam. Ever since bin Laden destroyed the Twin Towers in New York, the world turned against Muslims, much like most of it turned against Germany after World War Two.

I think that it should be a personal choice ehether one wants to wear a niqab or not. As long as one is not forced, everything is all right.
3
@GoodSamaritan-g2i Yes, it is up to an individual whether she wants to wear the niqab or not. How would any of us like to be told what to wear or what not to wear just because "other people do not like it?" Would any mini-skirted woman on this board like to be criticised for wearing a mini skirt? No? I thought not.

@truthisbitter7086 Orthodox Jewish women do not wear niqab. They wear wigs or scarves.
3
@truthisbitter7086 In that case, the Taliban would face the death sentence without fail, for they have murdered hundreds of people.
3
@arunaabraham6445 No, I agree that it should not be worn in some circumstances, e.g., while having a passport photo taken or for some other purpose for identification.
3
Some of those women would get beaten up by their husbands if they did not cover their faces. They do not want that.n
2
@truthisbitter7086 If the Bible says that if a woman does not wear a headscarf, she should shave her head, that is not far from saying that she should wear a hijab or niqab in public. If you do not believe my argument about women getting beaten up by their husbands for refusing to wear niqab, there are plenty of these. By dint of that argument, what sbout so-called "honour killings?"
2
@Jay_Johnson Exactly. Banning something is as bad as forcing it.
2
@patnelson2091 Maybe not abd the same goes for passport ID, but if she vhooses to wear a niqab in general in the street, she should feel free to do so without harassment.
2
@@philipcooke778 Would you like it if someone told you not to wear jeans and a t-shirt because that is an "American" idea? I agree that it is cruel to FORCE a woman to wear a niqab, but if she WANTS to, who are we to stop her?

@youtubeuserzzzz A burka does not conceal your face, azkimm, a niqab does.

@joannajett2524 When you write that there are things common in certain cultures, but not in others which can make one uncomfortable, one can also say that about food, e.g. Chinese restaurants, Indian takeaways, etc., yet plenty of European people eat in those.
1
@rosedudesert4389 Deviating a little from the norm, how do they photograph for passport purposes?
1
@joannajett2524 Firstly, your fiance is a man, so he does not have to veil in the same way as a woman. Secondly, there is a big difference between wearing a scarf over your face in winter and wearing a niqab or face veil for modesty reasons.
1
@joannajett2524 What about the banning of Christian crosses or Jewish skullcaps in France? Do those crosses and skullcaps cover the face? No.

@@selim12223 Adam and Eve were thrown out of paradise because they ate forbidden fruit, not because they showed each other their nudity.

The highwaymen and robbers were generally MEN, not women and they carried guns. These women do not carry guns,

@englishrose9030 It has nothing to do with what women of the West wore a hundred years qgo. It has to do with discrimination against Islam. End of story.

There are a lot of posts saying that we live in a free society and that it is against freedom to wear hijab, niqab, etc. I argue that in a free society you allow people to wear what they like, whether it is hijab, niqab or hot pants. In a free society, EVERYONE should do what they like. That is the whole point of freedom.
1
@englishrose9030 At one time, it was considered even for western women to wear skirts which revealed their ankles, let alone legs.
1
@thelemurofmadagascar9183 I am a western woman who does not wear make-up and if someone suggests that I should, I tell them to get stuffed.
1
@elora179 If they enjoy wearing those garments, fine. If they are forced to wear them against their will, it is a violation of their human rights.
1
I forgot to add that society itself is made up of individuals, not all of whom think alike.

@DEMONIKMINION I think all this argument about niqab or hijab is a disguise for hatred of Islam. It is Islam that the haters want abolished - the niqab and hijab are just smokescreens. This "argument " about the hijab and niqab started after bin Laden, the Muslim Al Quaida fanatic, destroyed the Twin Towers in New York. Before that, we never talked about hijabs and niqabs.
