Michelle Rice I was a teenager in the 1970's and I am afraid that I have to disagree with you. For a start, people were more aggressive and would hit you for no reason. Sexism and prejudice were a lot more acceptable then. Pictures of naked or near-naked women hung on the walls of almost every garage and discrimination and dirty jokes existed in almost every workplace. There were also continuous strikes and tax was 98%. We also suffered regular attacks from the IRA. Sure, there are problems now, but, at least, the country seems more stable now.

Ugh! I was around in 1976 and I can tell you that many people were more aggressive, took offence more easily and were a lot more prejudiced than they are now.

All the people who complain that life was better then are the same people who, in forty years' time, will say that life was better now. They are never satisfied.

Ugh, Marc, corporal punishment was administered like water and it was not always justified. By all means, slap them if it is necessary, but it is not always necessary.

@danw1374 You are lucky to have technology dictating your life. In some countries, it is religious fundamentalists and that is far worse.

I bet that most of them are dead now.

He must have e been dressed like a beggar, if you confused him with one, fluchter. The people at that time did dress like beggars: long-haired men and filthy denim clothes.
