@NoName-jq7tj It is their youth that people hanker for. When all is said and done, the principle of life is the same in every era: we all have to work for our living and there are good and bad economic times in every generation.

@levelofsnipes7378 Yet I find things better now. For a start, the economy is so much better now. Also, Internet is available nowadays, which is a great help. People complain about having to work from home or conduct meetings on Zoom during the coronavirus pandemic, but if coronavirus had struck in the 1970's, we would have been in far bigger trouble, as the technology to work from home had not yet been invented and children who had lost so much education because of coronavirus would not have been able to get it online, because there were no desktop computers or Internet and the libraries would have been closed.

In every generation, there is someone who complains about "conversation-killers." In the seventies, it was television. Today it is the computer or mobile phone. Shame really, because the latter two are also informative, I.e. information at your fingertips.
8
The title is somewhat misleading: there WAS television in the 1970's.
8
@DeeJay003 Yes,but many young people with underlying health conditions would have also died of coronavirus unexpectedly and people would have wanted to know why.
8
Poverty and social deprivation always exacerbate racialism.
6
@DeezN1892 And killed each other, too!
5
Rioting is hardly calm or reasonable, Leigh. Innocent people get hurt, too.
5
@shabbos-goy9407 The fashion of the time was terrible: long-haired men and filthy jeans.
4
@sarahfemi9862 Cultural differences create problems in all parts if the world, not just in the UK.
4
@Ghhyuttgg There was no swearing in the 1960's. I am sure that there was.
4
@jennytaylor3324 It is up to you whether to accept or reject the fashion. Punk rock fashion did not last long, though. Hippie fashion lasted much longer. Hard to say which I preferred.
3
@stevewalsh-balshaw1727 Compare that to the lives of the poor in Afghan, Pakistan, etc and the poor here are relatively rich.
3
@stevenhewes1990 People earned less then. I am sick and tired of people moaning about how bad things are now. Coronavirus apart, we are living in some of the best times: no war, no recession (although you never know what is around the corner.) In another forty years, we will say how wonderful life was now.
3
What were they rioting about?
3
@emil_rainbow Well, it is the first thing that you notice, so it is not surprising.
3
There were drugs openly sold and pimps in 1972, Danny?
3
@elvisonwax Doing dance in your knickers because the teachers thought that a skirt would get in your way (and in a mixed school.) Did not think of suggesting shorts for the pupils.
3
@anthonymitchell8893 What do you expect from a long-haired git of a teacher? His parents could have been racist.
2
Folks can never get on if they never learn to respect each other's differences.
2
Nowadays there is sound proofing.
2
Those afros make them look like mushrooms.
2
@sacandarmhagrh8911 I have to turn the sound up for the video and then the ads break in at ear-splitting sound.
2
The reporter is incredibly handsome.
2
@Stevensonbenson I was actually born in 1960.
2
@frostxlegendzx5798 Alternative fashion and alternative music meant that you p preferred music and fashion slightly different from the fashionable.
1
@richardtheeighth4431 No, but I cannot stand the shaved hair at the side of the head.
1
@whatamalike Just like when people say that the crime rate today is skyrocketing high. I can assure you that they said the self-same thing back then about the crime rate of the time.
1
@kiradelong9698 How is Strabane now?
1
Decimalisation did not come into use until 1971.
1
People want better standards of living, Sam.
1
@jeff4362 There is Nottingham and there is Snottingham.♡
1
@greenbanana1001 Not all of them are old enough to get a job.

You still hear of occasional attacks on Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, WILLY, hence the wall, separating both communities. As for senseless killing over religion, it still goes on in other parts of the world. In some ways, people's mentality has not changed.
1
@jasonsabourin9547 He may Google "The Troubles of Northern Ireland" on his phone, Jason.
1
Compared to now, Mrs Slocombe. Certainly!
1
1972 hairstyles- peculiar!
1
There are people who grew up during both World Wars, David..
1
Weird hairstyle, though.
