The trouble is that those women's social life at home is no good, otherwise they would not put so much emphasis on holiday romances and those holiday romances would not be the highlight of their lives.

@gabrielekarl9278 You want to make a bet? Almost every guest that came to our house when I was only eighteen started talking about marriage. If I was ever asked my age after the age of twenty, I was told not to answer. Therefore being single after a certain age DOES bring a lot of unwelcome curiosity.

@kap849 Love does matter in a relationship; it is the glue that holds it together, but these men are using those women for their own ends. They want a passport to come to the UK. Once they arrive in the UK, they abandon those women.

@blondecat666 "The ancient idea of a marriage is ingrained in US women." It is not only ingrained in US women but in women worldwide. Usually, the society in which those women live is dirt poor and the women in particularly are poorly educated. You will find that this tragically happens even today in some places. In those places, people live primitively, therefore a woman is worth little more than a brood mare. Thankfully, many societies realise that women's education and rights are equal to those of men and do the women can expect more that just marriage and motherhood, but, as I mentioned earlier, thee are still many parts of the world in which a woman is worth nothing.

@Tazza19931 There is nothing wrong with a woman buying a cup of coffee for a man on a date, but there is plenty wrong with her lending him VAST sums of money, especially online, where he can hide behind any scam.

Even in your own home country, would you marry someone whom you barely knew, especially if he was thirty years younger than you? As for your assertion that no-one truly knows someone until they live with them, 2TMarie, there was a time when you never lived with someone before marrying them and would you say that you knew them better then than you would know the now?
