If someone grew up in a devoutly Protestant home and abandoned his or her religion, it does not make him more of a hater than anyone else. Even a devoutly religious person may experience conflict between his or her religion and the outside world. His upbringing was just not to his or her taste. He or she should feel free to comment without being labelled.

  5. Difficult though it is, the sooner you break away from a stifling environment, the better it is. Of course, no-one likes to fall out with their family or friends, but that is the price you have to pay in order to move forward with your life. There are many who would like to do what she did but are unable to because they would not know how to make their way in the world. It takes some getting used to.

Those born into the religion accept it (I am not talking about those who want to break away. I am talking about those who do not want to break away) because they were not born into anything else, whereas a convert regards his adopted religion as something new.

  14.  @miam1074  A religion in which one gender controls the other is never a good one, just like any relationship - even an atheist one- is never good if one partner controls the other. A good relationship is based on equality and mutual trust, not domination and fear of the other partner.

  15.  @redfirebelle  In what scripture does it say that a woman has to get married? I think that it is a cultural thing, more to do with the harshness of life at the time. Blaming the scriptures for the compulsion of a woman to get married is the same as blaming the Protestant Church for Brexit.

  16.  @redfirebelle  There is nothing wrong with women dressing modestly if that is what they want to do, but, if it is FORCED on them, that becomes a problem. By that, I mean, being forced to dress in warm clothes on hot days and swelter in the heat. I do not mean showing one's cleavage.

  17. I do not think that the Holocaust is an excuse for oppressing females. I think that part of the reason that women are oppressed is because they are blamed for the Fall of Man. Yes, I know it was only one female who brought death and other problems into the world but no-one here can blame her because she is dead, so instead they blame all females collectively. That said, one should move on from that type of attitude.

  18.  @Robodog69  You get young people today fighting other people even though they were not born at the time that the original problems started. Look at Northern Ireland, for example. It was a hotspot in the 1970's with both Catholics and Protestants killing each other during the Troubles. Nowadays, although it has calmed down somewhat, we still hear of Protestants and Catholics attacking each other, even though they themselves were not born during the Troubles. Things can pass from generation to generation.

They were uneducated, uncultured and there were few job prospects. Many jobs required brute strength. There was no machinery or technology to help them, so women were regarded as useless in the field of work at the time, but times progress and so should mankind. Most people do not want to live in primitive times. They want to move on. They want to live more comfortably. They do not want to live like pigs.

Children are not fashion accessories that people take that they have a right to have just to show that they, the people, are normal and are "doing their bit" for society. There are too many children in this world whose parents wanted them at one time, then found that they could not cope with them and abandoned them. That is no better.

How many history books have we read about ancient tribes, which seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth,whether they had children or otherwise? It is just like the town in which you are now living. Five thousand years ago, it was probably a wilderness. In five thousand years' time, another town will be in its place and there will be no sign of your current town. Things change with the times. You cannot stop that, whether you have children or not.

  48.  @redfirebelle  It is the desire not to move forward with the times that is the problem. A lot of the problems do not stem from the scriptures themselves but from the social attitude of the time. In no scripture does it say that women must dress modestly or bear twenty children - that is a social attitude of the time. It is, as someone else on this board writes, life expectancy was short and people died young. The sad thing about this is that some people are still in this time warp, even though they were not born at the time and force it on their children and grandchildren.

  50.  @zhangshiyucao  You should not have children just for the sake of it. Every child needs to be wanted and loved. Having children just because it is considered to be the main preserve of women is not doing the children any favours and the children will not be happy to be told that their mothers had them only "in order to preserve the community."

However, there are still people who torment women about bring unmarried and believe that a woman is nothing without a man and who think that a woman should not divulge her real age if she is unmarried, not even to kith and kin. Most people who think that an unmarried woman should not divulge her really age may mean well, but, usually, if you have to hide your age, it means that you have a problem with it. It is like being unable to go out without wearing a mask or disguise. Being mocked for being single can be annoying if you hear it on a regular basis.
