Yes, being as self-sufficient as that person in that video has its advantages, but the twenty first century offers luxuries that never existed before.

  10.  @no_peace  I think that the reason that some people criticise this type of life is because they would not know what to do with themselves if they had to live it. In other words, they would get bored with it. I agree that boredom is a factor which needs to be taken into account, but once you know how to fill your time, you could have a lovely, peaceful existence there.

  51. A person cannot help being born intersex. That happens when instead of having XY or XX chromosomes, they have XXXY. This is a medical condition, not a crazy whim. Intersex people should be pitied, not scorned. Anyone could be born intersex.

  55. ​ @s3ntin3l60 I think that gender-stereotyping is actually at the root of this gender dissatisfaction crisis, rather than the gender itself. If you are going to teach a boy that it is wrong for him to play with his sister's dolls and wrong for a girl to play eith her brother's toy cars, you are teaching them that it is all right for one gender to do what it wants, but not for another. No-one likes being denied things that another person can do.

I mean, if an obviously looking male turns thirteen and is wearing a dress, how are you going to tell him that despite wearing a dress, he still looks like a boy and cannot enter the girls' changing-rooms at school?

  58.  @juliew1426  Oh yes, she has. As someone else pointed out in this chatroom, she is at risk of being killed by a snakebite and attacked by a person. She had her trailer home broken into already and she has to carry a gun to defend herself. I am afraid to say that nowhere is perfect tly safe. In big cities, there is also the risk of being murdered. In a village, you could die from a fatal injury without a nearby hospital and on a desert island, you have to worry where the next drop of water is coming from, but the world has always been a dangerous place.

You enjoy being around people, going out, etc. - that is your prerogative but he chose another sort of life - a life that he enjoys and that is up to him. You may think that he has wasted his life living like a recluse in a godforsaken environment but, trust me, his life is much more meaningful than those drunken, drug-taking louts that we see here in the UK, aimlessly wondering up and down in the streets, not knowing where they are going or what to do with themselves. At least, Faustino's life has some sort of structure to it. One last point: we never know what happened in Faustino's life to make him want to shun human contact for so long.

What she means is that this desert, despite its beauty, is still dangerous, not only because it is impossible to grow food there, attracts lawless types because there is no police to protect them. Sometimes, I feel the need to get away from an overpopulated, densely packed city but I am not sure about moving to a place whee I have to carry a gun to protect myself at all times.
