In India, there are other problems. There is massive misogyny there. I read of a true story that happened in 2012, when a young woman was physically thrown off a moving bus and later died of her injuries. Why? Because she was traveling alone on a bus late at night. That is no better than Muslim fanaticism, although the perpetrators were Hindu.

There is far too much competitiveness in society and that breeds feelings of social inadequacy.
11
@fenris4760 But it is the women who suffer the most. How many cases have you heard of men being murdered in the name of honour killings? How many cases have you heard of man being punished for being immodest dressed? How many cases havw you heard of men being executed for daring to venture outdoors without a chaperone? None!

@marcparingaux9205 I do not like alcohol. It is my basic human right not to, but it is not my basic human right to rebuke anyone else who does.
5
@caralho5237 A SMALL number of people can create massive problems. Read history.
4
@sherrytelle Double standards are a sign of emotional insecurity.
4
@randomhuman2595 Then why are there honour killings?
3
Heck, all this unpleasantness in the world makes me want to go to a remote island and hide in a tent.
3
@andrewtaylor3008 This is discrimination politics.
3
@BaconMaken And the people whom he killed were totally innocent. Maybe they were also virgins, perhaps even gay, but they did not go on a shooting rampage.
2
It is sometimes true that you can leave a place but the place cannot leave you, imt1217.
2
@do9138 I do not care if my newscaster or television producer looks like the back of a bus. All I am interested in is getting correct news or media information.
2
@James-to7pi Oh, for crying, James! The news is what is going on in the world at the moment. It is not a pop magazine programme. If the media want to create a programme especially for young people, maybe young people are the best to present it, but for the news and current affairs, a one- hundred-year-old is just as capable of presenting it.
2
@James-to7pi How do you know that she has so many offers on the table to choose from? Maybe they are not as well-paying.
2
Even the male interviewer at the beginning of this video says that there is a double standard about men and women going grey.
2
@AStri-zg5xc It is petty to sack someone over grey hair.
2
@eggsbenedict2251 Someone lost their job because of it. That IS a problem.
2
@alphanerd7221 Reading the news is about LOOKS?!
2
Next time, the media will start on people, particularly women, for wearing reading glasses. What annoys me is that men have got it into their heads that women do not want to progress, do not want to be part of the working world, yet when they try, they get booted out because of grey hair.
2
@viewfromthehighchair9391 News is rough, so I thought that the media would have bigger issues to worry about than the colour of a presenter's hair.
2
He is probably afraid to show his face now, Kathleen.
2
Absolutely true, C.B. Barlow, then the men say that we do not want the jobs.
2
I have no problem with anyone's religion or culture, as long as they do not try to ram it down my throat and do not let it interfere with my life. I believe in "Live and let live."
2
@connorjames1586 Overdoing it does, though, it cannot be denied. It is the police's job to arrest drunken nuisances, not the Muslim Patrols'.
1
@iconickid2397 He is not entirely wrong, I have to admit and I am not even a Muslim. Alcohol is like drugs. It destroys a person. But it is the police's job to deal with drunken behaviour, not his.
1
Easy availability of guns created it, daboys. I can't get what I want, so I will go on a shooting rampage. That will make me feel better, as I will have avenged my frustration. Rubbish attitude. It makes things worse. He had to commit suicide when he was finally caught, otherwise he would either have been executed or jailed for life without parole.
1
Patriarchy is like racism - a sign of emotional insecurity.
1
@dorianshadesofgray My opinion is that this discrimination towards grey-haired women goes back to the time when it was irrelevant for men to be good-looking because it was considered more important for them to be breadwinners than attractive people, so it did jot matter if men's hair turned grey. Women had few job prospects, so they had to be pretty in order to ensnare a husband, otherwise it would be very difficult for them to survive. It is sad that, even though women's lots have improved over time, discrimination against them still had not been entirely eradicated.
1
@James-to7pi "At 54, she is a liability." Heaven help us! I mean, there will be loads of people with nothing to do with their time. People will fill useless and aimless. That is a sure way to get depressed and commit suicide. Is that what you want, James?
1
@pokey5736 James sounds like a right miseryguts, Nancy. If he considers himself old at fifty-four, I wonder what he will say when he is sixty-four.
1
@B F2021 This attitude shows that women exist solely for the enjoyment of men and are no better than chattel and when the men get fed-up with them, they discard them, like a child discards his or her toys once he or she outgrows them. Nothing demeans a person more than being made to feel useless and put on the scrapheap. It is what women have been fighting against since the last century.
1
Rubbish, Lazy Boi.
1
@erickborling1302 Grey hair is natural. We all go grey unless something shortens our life dramatically.
1
@nic969 Sexism is alive and well in 2022.
1
@verawallace9055 Maybe she does not want to.
1
Those are the same people who believe that women are there only for men's "satisfaction " and "entertainment." They are also the same people who believe that women should be constantly dependent on men, should not be able to take out mortgages in their own name and should need men's permission even to " blink." If a woman wants to let her h.air go grey and say " Get lost" to any form of convention which says that she should not, she should, just to defy it.
1
@Nefariously_ignorant Do you have to ge pretty to read the news, which is all doom and gloom anyway, especially now, with the Russia-Ukraine war?
1
@jonathanmorrison2225 Life can make you angry, especially unnecessary prejudice.
1
@barbaramatthews696 That is just as bad as discriminating about grey hair. First, the men try to control us, then they say thatnit is us who do not want any freedom. That makes you bloood boil.
1
@James-to7pi I am sixty-two and do not consider myself old. To me, life is about what I can do, not what I cannot do. It is about what I have, not what I do not have and if we have nothing in common with young folks, that is tough. They too will get "old " one day and find that they ha e nothing with the generation below them. That is life.
1
@James-to7pi You can die in your twenties or thirties, as well. Even children die. What is the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children for?
1
@Anthonyprinciotti Young and beautiful might sell, but they are transient.
1
@HeidiSchwendeWSI Don't worry, Heidi, this junior executive will get old himself one day and get put on the scrapheap. Then he will see what it is like.
1
@eggsbenedict2251 That is, unfortunately, the trouble and itnis misogynistic men who created this reasoning.
1
@aarqa Ask a thirty-year-old if they know who is Number One in the pop charts.
1
@jld4870 It is a privilege to grow old. Think of the people who do not reach it. It could have been any one of us. Unfortunately, we live jn a competitive, analytic, age-orientated society that rips us to shreds even we reach a certan age. No wonder people get depressed.
1
@James-to7pi No, I am not a scholar. I speak from the heart.
1
@eggsbenedict2251 What goes round comes round, Red Ranger and women have been second-class citizens for too long.
1
@James-to7pi Why should I consider myself three-quarters in the grave just because you consider yourself old? Tearing yourself apart just because you are not exactly young makes you feel even older. A person should be grateful for what he has, not what he does not have. OK, he may not be in the first flush of youth, but if he is healthy and has a good means of supporting himself, he is a lot better off than some youngster, begging in the archway of some shop, with no roof over his head. It is quality which counts, not quantity. By the way, sometimes life is better in one's later years than in one's earlier one's.
1
@James-to7pi No, I never did anything stupid in my twenties or thirties and still don't. However, if you choose to wallow in misery because of your do -called advancing years, I have no patience for you.
1
@James-to7pi Just a few minutes ago, you wrote that you hoped that I did not do anything stupid now that I did in my twenties. Make up your mind: either I should have done some silly things in my twenties and learnt from them or been sensible enough not to do them in the first place, even then.
1
@bobloblaw1720 In all likelihood, it was. It was mankind who invented stupid rules whenever it felt insecure, mankind who chooses to ruin other people's lives because it does not trust itself to use reason, mankind that is to blame for almost all the misery in the world and all the distress that it has caused in the world, it can easily take out.
1
@Richard well Muslim countries oppress their people.
1
@laxyakumar9440 Of course, it is sad to me. Women being oppressed annoys me wherever it happens, be it Saudi Arabia, India, Iran or anywhere else.
1
@laxyakumar9440 Where in the United States have you heard of aomen being killed becausebof "honour?" They get killed mainly because they are weaker, not because of " honour."
1
@dorianshadesofgray I do not wear makeup and to hell how other people treat me because of that.
1
@dorianshadesofgray It is a societal expectation: men must ge charming and women must be beautiful.
1
@Anna-vl8qc TV, YouTube, what is the difference? The same rubbish on another channel.
1
@poocrayon4588 Who is to say that will not get closed down or denigraded in some other way? Look at women's football. Not a man participating in their matches snd people say that they lack the "spark" that men have.
1
@poocrayon4588 Your last sentence contradicts the rest of your comment.
1
@poocrayon4588 No-one owes anyone anything, but that does not mean that women should get belittled or endure second-class treatment just because they are women.
1
@poocrayon4588 Which one and in what way what? I wish that you would elaborate because I can not guess shat you are discussing when you write snippets of speech. I amnot trying to be rude, I just do not understand to what you are referring when you write like this.
1
@dorianshadesofgray It is a societal expectation. That was not always the case. It started twelve thousand years ago when nomadic tribes settled and agriculture became an important source of income for men. Machinery, as we know it now, did not exist, so everything was done by hand. Men were stronger, so the bulk of the work was left to them. During World War Two, men were enlisted, so women were enlisted to do what was previously men's work. But, for heaven's sake, things progress with the times and we begin to realise that most women can do the work that men can do and if we still think that women are inferior because that was how they were considered in the past, heaven help us because our mindsets are no different than those if animals.
1
@dorianshadesofgray If women treat other women because they do not wear makeup, it shows how shallow they are.
1
@poocrayon4588 You wrote in a earlier post that nothing is stopping women having their own media outlet, but, at the same time, you also wrote that there is no guarantee that it will succeed. That's what I am talking about.
1
@jsmcguireIII She was a JOURNALIST, not an entrant for a Miss World competition.
1
@poocrayon4588 I agree that men are not guaranteed success with every venture that they undertake, either, but it is more accepted that they undertake ventures than women, even if the men fail with their ventures.
1
@learnerm3120 The fellow Islamic countries are no better. Do you think that life in Iraq is better than in Iran, Syria better than Libya, Jordan better than Kuwait? Each is as bad to live in as the other.
