Your last point is a very good one. I ll add a precision thats also why sunnis muslims are not fighting back against US or Israel. Shia islam is totally different, challenging the powerful is the root of their religion, sacrificing for a good cause is a must. Its a religion of values while sunni islam is only a religion of practices

Islam was at some point the most developed nation. Andalucia was very tolerant, a man flied for the first time with wings, they were so developed that they after the reconquista, the Muslims intellectuals converted to christianism and helped the development of the Spanish Empire

@themanontheinside that’s totally true, the story of the reconquista is fascinating for that matter. First the Moors were not coming from arabia but were North African that changed their language to arabic. They were a tiny minority of the Muslim part of Spain which was composed mostly of spaniards converted to islam, and after 800 years they had alll mixed to create a new culture and race. The movies like the Cid portraying a bunch of very dark skinned arab looking guys fighting white people is totally wrong. The 2 camp fighting had 90% vs 100% spaniard DNA, and most of the muslims that lost were killed or converted to christianism. So technically the truth is closer to : Spaniards converted to islam after a conquest and went back to become Christians again 800 years after. Few population moves. Most of today traditional spanish musical culture was invented at that period.

@themanontheinside some Spaniards muslim refused to become Christians and went to Morocco and mixed. Thats why in northern Morocco you can find many kids with blue or green eyes, even blond hairs when they are young !

@carolynhague7199 there are 2+ billions Muslims, don’t judge them all by a simple reading of a book. I visited Indonesia and thailand and saw 0 extremism but very pious people that helped you for free.

@thomasmorris8435 Muslims literally invented the compass and all the navigation tech that enabled the discovery of America. In fact islamic Spain had a majority population of Spaniards converted to islam (thats. Why the countryside still spoke soanish) so technically they were “white” people. When the reconquista happened, most of those engineers that had the same look as catholic conquerors simply converted to Christianism and many helped with the discovery of the new world.

30 years ago, majority of Arab countries were seculars… must be another reason for the increase of power from political Islam, no ? Something like the US bombinng all and only secular countries and turniythe region to radicalism

@staal2691 it was very progressive, full of poems, love and homosexuality. Read any sultan letters of that time and you are here for a shock. Islam is just a word, there were many ways to practice it. Same for christianity, today it’s associated with tolerance. Before it was as unalterable and unmixable as today’s islam. Thats why we are almost 3 billion christians now.

@staal2691 they got rid of nobody, the Muslims converted to christianity, most of them were actual spaniards that had converted during the first arab invasion, which had 0 arab in it but only north african berbers arabised. Modern studies show even in south of spain aka andalucia, not more than 10% of DNA is north african. It was a civil war!
