GB could not have "lost" the Battle of Britain, because they had a geographical advantage. The LW didn't have the right planes, nor enough of the wrong ones. Didn't have the "right planes" = long range air superiority fighters which could cover all of the British Isles. Not enough of the "wrong planes" = not nearly enough short range aircraft to keep up an indefinite local air superiority of a supposed invasion area. Even if the LW had proved itself individually superior in late-1940, Dowding would have simply withdrawn the RAF squadrons north of London, into the depths of the land, and there would have been nothing the LW could have done about it. Sure. SE England would in that case have been bombed flat as a pancake, but any German attempt at invasion to try and exploit a temporary air superiority, would have failed as soon as the RAF returned. In fact, a sort of mini version of "Why did Barbarossa fail".
