  1. RIght, the left is about class solidarity and a fair, just and equal society. Aggressive identity politics and passive aggressive anti-identity politics are both plots to undermine that. The first serves corporatist neoliberals, the second serves the alt-right.

  2. Excellent points. There's a right way to go about a class centered approach which is inclusive to other identities and their own specific grievances with power and a wrong way which erases them. Given how David has been giving a fairly establishment anti-Trump message for the past 4 months I suspect it's the latter. I don't know whether he is trying to boost his views by appealing to the anti-SJW fad here on youtube or if this is the first step in his Rubinization. Either way it's not good.

  3. Dems don't actually do any of that stuff. Hillary's campaign was actually trying to win college educated whites and steal that demographic from the Republican Party. That's just a load of crap that let's people with alt-right sympathies claim they won the election. In actuality the average Trump voter was the average Republican.

  4. Society already makes identity a thing. Discrimination based on sexual orientation is legal in 30 some states, broken windows policing, stop and frisk and the drug war all target minorities. Ignoring that won't fix the problem. However focusing on identity while ignoring the problems of wealth and power ignores a huge part of the dynamic that creates inequality among different groups in the first place.

  5. Jack Rodriguez It's not about who is affected, it's about who is doing anything about it. Here's a hint, black people and the Standing Rock tribe didn't just vote for a guy who hates environmental regulations and wants to kick out all the Mexicans.

  7. Biggsy DaBoss Majorities are built out of coalitions. Any kind of liberal coalition needs minority support, that is just a fact of U.S. politics. Furthermore they will become more important as time goes on.

If you care more about your identity being under attack by MTV news than global capitalism, then you are the problem. The fact is while you might physically represent a huge voting block, the average person who leaves the basement doesn't go for your kind of identity politics. You act like you lead some kind of movement, in reality you are just fringe idiot driven by resentment.

The fact is you're in a little alt-right bubble of people telling you you're the victim of these evil minorities. The average person lives in the real world. Thinking you represent Nixon's Silent Majority and your politics elected Trump are part of the propaganda. The average Trump voter is the average Republican and all this is just how you rationalize supporting the right.

  15. NoneOfTheAbove First there are people on the left ignoring class. It's a function of elite opinion and elite opinion making, but there are ordinary people who hear it and believe it. You are right that David is feeding the alt-right narrative with this video. The way you beat that narrative is to actually address class as well as identity.

  17. Ignoring class is counter productive. There are real injustices targeted at certain identities. If we all are in the same boat we need to work together to address those problems.
