@bakters First of, France was not even close to being the top country in the world in the middle ages. In fact the country was generally weak and even Paris was conquered by raiders and Vikings. China, Byzantium, the Ottomans, the Huns etc were far stronger. In fact, no the ones that invented Romance were definitely not the top males. Maybe the most educated ones, but education didn't hold much value back then. What did was status, wealth and power. Education sometimes coincided with wealth but the others didn't usually line up.
