+Sral Neman Romans had and wore greaves.
1
Sral Neman They wore open toed boots called caligae (and later closed toe boots called calcei) on their feet. However, greaves are armour for the lower leg, not the foot and yes, Romans did wear greaves. There are extant examples as well as evidence in art and sculpture. Now hush child and let the grown ups talk.

Sral Neman Average infantry soldiers could wear them if they could afford them. Often a front line soldier might wear one on the lead leg. Centurions, optios, decurions all might wear greaves if they had them and the current mission required greaves. It's pretty clear that Late Period cavalry wore greaves. Combining art sources and realia gives clear and solid evidence that Romans had and wore greaves. The Empire valued it's troops, they were paid a pretty decent wage and trained and offered land and citizenship if the served with valor and loyalty. Metals are not particularly rare, especially iron, which is the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. Many legionaries bought their own equipment especially during the Republic. The Army and the soldiers in it were well equipped, well supported and well trained. That's why Rome ended up ruling most of the known world at the time.

Sral Neman What difference does it make whether they could access every iron source? There were plenty of iron sources that they could access and did. The Romans cared about quality metal enough that they had laws against diluting precious metals with base metals. They made use of the best iron they could make within the limits of the technology they had. None of which has anything to do with whether or not they had and used greaves. YOu need to read a lot more about Rome, it's material culture and it's technology because you're kind of ignorant about it.

Sral Neman Well you didn't know the difference between greaves and sandals for one thing. You also didn't know the Romans wore greaves and you didn't know the Romans had ample supplies of iron to make weapons and armor. I could go on but I'm tired of talking to you. Go read.

Sral Neman When I said Romans had and wore greaves, your response was "No they wore sandales." That's a quote. SO you clearly did not know the difference until I explained it to you. Not sure what country you are in but I'm sure a little bit of forest had nothing to do with why the Romans didn't invade. Probably nothing there that they wanted.

Sral Neman The Romans did not wear high topped sandals, for fucks sake. Just stop. You do not have any idea what you are talking about. If by forest you are referring to the CLades Varianus, it wasn't the forest, it was the turncoat Cherusci tribe that did the damage. Germania just wasn't worth all the bother and the tribes there weren't doing much more than fighting with each other and occasionally raiding across the Rhine. In other words, Rome didn't want anything in that territory (which BTW has nothing to do with modern Germany the nation state).

Sral Neman Sure dude whatever you gotta tell yourself.
