China is testing their ideas and will be for at least another decade, then they have to build these ships, which takes years, then test them, which takes more years. They’re not going to have carriers that match fifty year old American carriers for at least two decades by which time the Chinese population bomb will have gone off. Their window is closing.

The PVA 9th army was so devastated they were combat ineffective until 1951. The UN forces suffered 10,000 casualties while the PVA suffered at least 50,000 and in some estimates up to 60,000. X Corps allowed the 8th army to hold South Korea. The PVA 9th army became a “giant hospital”, according to Yu Bin and it failed to destroy the numerically inferior UN at Chosin as planned. During the battle, Chinese discipline broke down multiple times because the starving and freezing Chinese soldiers focused on looting food and clothing, allowing counterattacks that destroyed multiple Chinese units. The point being is Chinese military inexperience caused them to fail their mission despite taking territory. That’s why South Korea is an independent democracy and not an impoverished dictatorship. Notice also that China was unable to capitalize on this “victory”. There’s no reason to be terrified by the Chinese, especially given their internal problems which will ultimately reduce them as both a military and geopolitical threat.
