Harris’s job regarding the border was to address the issues driving immigration, not to personally guard the border, which she has done. She has worked with both private companies and foreign governments to address the desperate need for jobs in places like Venezuela and Colombia. Alejandro Mayorkas is chief of homeland security. It is his job to protect the border. I live on the border in Texas. It is far from wide open. CBP turns back thousands of people a day. Most people are stuck on the Mexico side of the border. As far as groceries go, those prices spiked during the pandemic and once corporations realized you’d pay that kind of money, there was no incentive to reduce prices. Bird influenza raised the price of eggs, drought in Singapore and Thailand drove up the price of sugar. There are also multiple wars taking place as well as numerous natural disasters. All these events tend to increase the price of some goods and none of them is under the control of any presidential administration.
