@saddlepiggy I think the concept of patriotism has gotten very tarnished over the last several decades, probably starting with Vietnam. This is compounded by the rise of the internet with wide access to information plus the war on terror and the visibility of maimed veterans. Lots of stories about just how awful and barbaric and toxic and horrible war actually is and being able to see what it really looks like is probably off putting as hell.

⁠ @sueshade8215 so he’s not infantry or combat engineers then lol It will remain a draw to some and those people will sign up. The number of those people will diminish over time unless we come up with another way to bring capable people into the military.
