Indeed, Russians were behind a lot of the covid misinformation.

@natalieturko4808 Rostov was historically Ukrainian land too. Perhaps its return will someday be part of reparations.
1
Exporters will now include risk premiums in their prices of goods going into the US. We will pay for king Trump's madness.
1
He can do a lot with a compliant Supreme Corp and compliant legislature, such as make up the lie that the blue states don't pay their share of the federal budget, then let loose a new sharpie edict to the effect that their votes don't count until they fix that non-existent problem.
1
Gaslighting. The borders aren't any more "open" now than they were under Trump. It's a "hey, look at the goodyear blimp" thing.
1
Not at all. US reichwing media merely paint it as such. Very little airtime, legislation time, or speech time get given to the 0.5% of people (trans folks) who are Trump's favorite boogeyman at the current moment. And yet, reich wingers see it behind every mailbox and telephone pole.

With the extremely lax media laws in the US, it has long been the practice of America's adversaries to use domestic American propaganda outlets quite openly to further the atmosphere of isolationism. Hitler did it through the Lindberg's and the German-American Bund and the America First organization .. pretty much just as Putin is doing it now through Trump, the Republican party leaders, and the party media outlet "Fox news". Republicans have been systematically disinvesting in public education to the point where some Americans probably can't spell the word 'propaganda' correctly and far too many can't identify the stuff when they encounter it :(

When the Russians display foreign technologies that they themselves are incapable of manufacturing domestically, it is not quite the burn they imagine it to be. Shades of cavemen showing off captured iphones.
1
And with it becoming commonplace for him to declare some fake emergency and not be checked by Congress, one day we may wake up to hear something like this from the white house: "An economic emergency is officially declared over delinquent student loans, which are crushing the economy. Therefore, those borrowers are now classed as economic terrorists and are subject to seizure and deportation. Heil Trump."

Russia emptied its male prisons; now it's bringing female prisoners to the front lines to engage in combat. Putin will fight until only grandparents and younger children are left. He's going to pull out his own Putin Youth eventually like funny mustache guy did in Germany when the war got desperate.
1
Thank you for the book reference.
1
@SiliconCurtain Or as Beau once said .. if the jackboot fits, better slip it on and start goose-stepping.
1
@TheDonkeyFuzz Correct. Putin is far more worried about the other spiders in the Kremlin than what he's doing to his own country by the pursuit of a campaign against a people who really, really do not want to return to life under the Soviet boot.
1
@SiliconCurtain Wow can that guy speak clearly and deeply.
1
Also on podcast. Google nest mini finds easily enough.
1
Now is not the time for the leaders of the west to emulate the example of Neville Chamberlain. Appeasement is the act of feeding your neighbors to a hungry alligator, hoping it eats them before you.
1
There is apparently already a resistance working in Russia to hinder Putin's ability to conduct offensive warfare. There may soon be many more 'unexplained' fires.
1
With a population of ~340 million, the US has at least 170 million lower-IQ historically-illiterate citizens. Some of them voted for this.
1
Long-range AI drone swarms bring capabilities hitherto available only via cruise missiles, bomber aircraft, or ICBMs. Russia will have many many such targets, and nowhere near enough interdiction capacity to protect them all.
1
@SiliconCurtain Still laughing over how Putin fcked himself with that comment about Poland allegedly starting WW2 by not being nice enough to Hitler. Set off alarm bells all over Europe, encouraged his US lackey to say he'd let Russia take NATO territories that don't pay their dues. They could not have done a better job of dipping themselves in sht.
1
Putin has convinced himself that being an old-fashioned colonial power is necessary for the survival of Russia. It's like a root bad decision that he seems unable to back up to.
1
FOX & Facebook (the primary "news" sources for America's population of Dunning Kreuger folks) told them otherwise. Who are they going to believe, "elitists" (translation: people who know anything) or the friendly-sounding liars?
1
We did know about it in advance. By August of 2021 (some 5 months before the SMO) the factory making Javelins switched up to 3 shifts production.
1
About the ground being laid to enable Putin .. uggh, I am but one of the many many who hoped that Russia would become something different and better after the USSR dissolved. At the time I did not appreciate the true nature of Russia. The past two years have been eye-opening :( I understand now that Russian leaders & their politics are the result of longstanding deeply-held sentiments there, and not outliers taking them in directions they don't like.
1
Mainstream media coverage in the USA is mostly happytalk. It will take awhile for the impacts of Trump's bad policies to be felt. The loss of allies and trading partners is a complete disaster.
1
And we may rest assured that all kinds of regional players are wanting to step into any kind of power vacuum.
1
Same. Been following the news daily since I was shorter than the dishwasher.
1
There are a lot of people addicted to "angertainment", the speech form that Rush Limbaugh marketed and that Trump markets now. Makes certain people feel good about hating other people. Without that, Trump wouldn't have many voters at all, and he knows it.
1
Trump heard of a nation that, once upon a time, had nearly full employment (on paper, anyway), imported hardly anything, and met all of its domestic needs with domestic manufacturing (on paper, anyway). He's trying to bring to the US the "greatness" of the former Soviet Union.
1
@gerryhouska2859 But not infinite. So lately they are giving female prisoners the option to go to the front, meaning they've run low of male prisoners. The provinces got tapped out to the point where it was necessary to start drawing from Moscow & St Pete's. Most likely Putin will keep his foot on the gas until they run out of Russian soldiers of any age group and either gender.
1
KGB colonel, expert handler of foreign assets, has no trouble with US Republicans. They're easy fodder for manipulation. Obama and Biden? Putin doesn't like them. They see him for what he is.
