The longer Russia stays in Ukraine, the more Russia loses arms, equipment, personnel. If they left tomorrow they'd begin the process of rebuilding. Right now they are still sticking their own limbs into the wood chipper and hoping for a different result. It's not working. Armenia & Azerbijan are at it again, Khirghistan/Kazakstan are having a water war, and Georgia & Chechnya are taking lessons from Ukraine in how to kick out the Russians. The longer Russia remains tied down in Ukraine, the worse everything else gets for them. Maybe Georgia wants to join NATO too?

When Europe finally isn't using Russian hydrocarbons anymore, Russia will have lost that market forever. If this is how they are "crippling" Europe, it's a pretty self-defeating way of using it. At this point, Russia could not successfully take on Italy. Zero chance of Russia attacking the US.
