@davidjohnpaul333 Sounds like Sky News talking points are being taken seriously instead of being laughed at for being propaganda. The reality is, Australia needs to get moving ASAP on vaccination. Lockdown type measures will not be effective much longer, now that we know that covid is capable of evolving in the direction of being so much more communicable as to render lockdowns pointless. Mass vaccination is the only way out of this.

@andrewtrip8617 Regarding "it is not a threat to the vast" << On that point you are 180 degrees wrong. Last year's kinder gentler original covid was like that, but the newer variants are not. Young, old, healthy, sick, it does not care who you are, it can kill you with ease of there is not hospital care available for you when you need it. And that has always been the danger of this disease, overwhelming the local hospital systems. When that happens, the death rate goes up from around 2% to around 20%.

I've got friends in Australia (QLD, WA) and it's a struggle getting them to take this thing seriously enough to mask and get vaccinated and not socialize openly with strangers. I try telling them that covid has killed a lot more of our people than WW2 did, and they just shrug and tell me it's different there. Much of their country is wide open to stealth spread that would go like wildfire later. There are people dodging lockdowns, heading out to the bush, and socializing in big groups totally without masking or distancing - I know this from watching youtube channels where they post their travels in near real time.

@andrewtrip8617 Regarding "You have the opportunity to find a strategy that works" << since I'm not in government, that sentiment is wasted on me. Take it up with them. But yes, any strategy other than vaccinating as many as possible ASAP is going to fail. California, USA is one of the better vaccinated states .. yet Delta is still causing new-case rates to rise even there. The reality may be that we need above 80% fully-vaccinated to stop this thing. And, to be honest, I don't care if we have to make vaccination mandatory. This disease is more of a threat to us than WW2 was, and letting folks exercise their freedumbs to stay unvaccinated now is like letting people leave all their lights on during the London Blitz. When the stakes are this high, participation is not optional.

Wrong. What you're saying is that you have trouble finding out who to trust. It is not that information itself is all equally true or equally untrue. Sorting out fact from bullshit is what you need to do.

If you watch the right youtube channels (from folks posting in near real time) you'll see that folks are running away from lockdowns and mingling in large groups, unmasked, in other places. Naturally some of them are the anti-mask anti-vax types who seem unclear on the concept of civic responsibility. These are the ones who would have insisted on keeping all their house lights on during the London blitz :( Edit: if Australia police want to see this thing, they ought to be monitoring cellphone IDs and where they go .. that database of who's been going where ought to be helpful.
