They had a word for people who wouldn't do what they were told during WW2. Something along the lines of "quisling", "traitor", or "draft dodger". As it is, this damn virus has taken more American lives in one year than WW2 took in four years, so, yes, it's a time of national emergency and one should get with the program.

@kjell1087 Funny thing, though, in WW2 being called up to serve meant that you were actually being put in harm's way. With regards to being told to take a vaccine, the situation is almost reversed: the vaccine [mostly] saves you from the harsher effects of a disease that's currently going around. Do you use a car? You may have noticed the seat belts in it. You may have seen signs telling you to wear seat belts. They are "only" 45% effective at reducing death by auto accident and "only" 50% effective at reducing serious injury by auto accident. Yet in many places the use of those safety devices is mandated by law. Same thing now. Government not only has the right to protect people from their own worst instincts, it has the responsibility to do so.

@andrewtrip8617 Regarding "following orders" .. the Nazis were in the business of killing folks. The vaccines are in the business of saving folks. You flipped a sign in your moral calculations.

@RyanOManchester Regarding "it's a return to the norm" << Oh dear. Well, since the internet hasn't been around for much of human history, I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is, toss your electronics into the nearest canal, and go live out in the bush. Humans were lucky to make it to age 35 before modern medicine and nutrition. Those of us who wish to continue to live in modern times shall of course make a different set of decisions, including that of vaccines and other things that make our health better. I am quite willing to bet that at your age you've already been vaccinated against a number of things for your own good. This is just another in a long line of them. Trying to get someone to be pro-death and anti-vaccine is not a matter of "examining the issue from another perspective", by the way, since we are still very much in the active time window of this particular emergency. Call me back in 10 years on this, if you're still around then, because I'm pretty confident that by then even you may have come to realize your errors.

@69birdboy Thank you for bringing those complete non-sequiturs into the discussion .. shows that your mind holds a discussion topic about as well as a fishnet holds water. Back to the topic - using the NVSS data, there was an approx 17.7% increase in the mortality rate in the USA during 2020. What big new thing was happening in 2020? Gun deaths? Bad eating habits? Car accidents that went viral? No, silly, it was covid.

@kjell1087 Regarding "A traitor who serves as the puppet of the enemy occupying his or her country" << Thank you for contributing that, because that is precisely what someone is doing when they are anti-mask and/or anti-vax and/or anti public health measures. They are serving to spread the disease to more of their own people. In case you haven't been watching the news the last 2 years, there's a virus waging war on every country on the planet. Don't be a stooge for the enemy.

@techroach6343 Sorry, twat, at least I have the sense to be doing the right thing. You, on the other hand, would have been punished for your inability to do the right thing, even when it would save your own life and the lives of your countrymen.

@RyanOManchester On the estimates of human lifespans before modern medicine came along, you are once again completely off base. I'm feeling sorry for you. Somehow, events in your cozy life have led you to believe you have even a portion of a clue about anything you speak about. Whoever encouraged you do feel this way merely set you up to be mocked. It's one thing to be the smartest person in your corner of that central-Ohio trailer park where you live. It's a whole nother thing to actually know what you're talking about.
