Most interestingly, there is not a single written treaty (between us and them) that contains language covering the issue of former Soviet republics joining NATO. Putin lies about that constantly. There was no such promise.

Also look up the NATO-Russia Founding Act of 1997. In none of those treaties was there any promise whatsoever to refuse to allow former USSR satellite nations to join NATO if they wanted. And wow have they wanted to. Guess no one misses the heavy, crude Russian boot on their necks.
