Calling it "Freedumb Day" is so Orwellian. More like let's-infect-everyone day. This is like turning on all the street lights during the London Blitz. What the?

@rose green It's very hard to talk any sense to those people. Three of my friends were sickened, two of them bad enough to have long lasting medical complications. Four of my out-of-town friends died from it. But they are like the people who walk out of their Antarctic base, scoop up a ball of snow, and proudly declare that there's no global warming because there's snow where they are right now. For fuck's sake :(

@joycejnn You are wrong yet again, dimwit. If everyone wears masks it hinders and slows the spread of disease. It must suck to have a poisoned brain that's not working right, and to develop a taste for the dumbest propaganda that wouldn't fool a cat, yet somehow you manage it. Why are you pushing information that will cause more suffering and death, and only prolong the pandemic? Why do you hate your fellow citizens so much that you would push misinformation like this?

@joycejnn Listen, you rotting piece of ignorance, all you need to do is tune to any database that shows the USA has had more than 600K covid deaths. To make that simple enough for your pea brain to digest - that's very very bad.

Yes :( this is like turning on all your lights at night during the London Blitz because you've grown weary of blackout curtains. What the?

Condolences that you must endure having the "Balsonaro of Britain" as your PM. Here in the colonies we fired the former idiot-in-chief over his failure to deal with this crisis.

Here's hoping that the people in poorly-vaccinated countries can lock down thoroughly enough to give them the time to get vaccinated. That is the only way out of this thing. Australia, I'm looking at you.

@abajojoe I've got friends in WA and QLD. For most of the pandemic, they've continued socializing freely with strangers indoors and not a mask in sight. It's as if they're reading about news from another planet and thinking it can't happen to them. Resistance to vaccination is even higher there than in the US. Hopefully their government will put on the adult pants and make it compulsory to participate in the eradication of the disease, just as they made it compulsory to fight the Axis powers in WW2. This is that serious of a threat to their nation and every other.

Last summer, a number of northern-hemisphere nations saw dropping covid numbers as the warmer weather caught on. Everyone thought covid had somehow "gone away", though later, in the fall, it became clear that covid had merely been spreading in a more stealthy way during that time - as if it spends more time growing the roots in warm weather and grows the shoots in cooler weather.

@DevilbyMoonlight It's definitely not a joke. But you get these utter lunkheads who say that they just had the sniffles, and didn't die, so therefore the 600K+ deaths in this country "must be" a lie. Gah :(

@joycejnn Regarding "Your claims are not backed up by any definitive research or evidence " << It sounds as if you have never seen what goes on in hospitals. For well over a century, doctors and nurses have been wearing MASKS around patients to avoid infecting them and being infected by them. How dumb are you? Rhetorical question. Really really really dumb obviously :(
1
@Chaggy1978 Regarding "Like a piece of cloth will stop a virus particle entering" << your continued ignorance is simultaneously hilarious and sad. What did your ancestors do to "gift" you with such a pitifully bad excuse of a brain? I mean, you're being dumber than dirt on this one. Even during the last big pandemic about a century ago, they knew that wearing cloth coverings over the face slowed/inhibited the spread of the virus. You're really so daft it's funny. No awareness of history or what goes on in hospitals.
1
@joycejnn Once again, all you're accomplishing is showing off how well-developed your ignorance is. Numerous studies covered this during the pandemic. Even a plain multi-layer cloth face mask is better than nothing at slowing the spread of the virus. You've been suckered into believing the dumbest propaganda that wouldn't fool a cat, so, thanks for the laughs. To say it more bluntly - my kids won't be hiring your kids.

@TranceTrousers Re "and don't fall for the propaganda and fear mongering" << Gee, genius, why don't you try asking some of America's 621,161 dead-from-covid citizens how they feel about your blithe answer? Let's see what they say.
1
@PaulaXism Dear lordy, where do y'all get your misinformation from? The numbers you're quoting aren't backed up by any actual source. Official US deaths are above 600K, and potentially up in the 900K range going by the excess deaths numbers for 2020. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Please get everyone in Australia vaccinated ASAFP, because covid keeps evolving in the direction of being a lot more contagious than previous versions. Something even worse than Delta may soon be knocking on your door. Past a certain point, mass vaccination is the only way out of the trap.

@36AccountsBlockedRIP Re "under totalitarian rule" << You should try living in Somalia. It should be a paradise. No taxes or regulations, hardly any government at all. A paradise, right?
1
@36AccountsBlockedRIP "It could have a lot of potential if there were a lot fewer Somalians" << Wrong. It's not the number or density of people that's the problem there, it's that free-range libertarianism is a completely batshit philosophy. Which Somalians are doing a fine job proving. When there's no government or very little government, regional warlords emerge to run areas like their own little fiefdoms. And when the regulatory burden (on businesses) is light to nonexistent, you get a lot of Hooker Chemical Company type businesses that produce Love Canal type disasters that they walk away from because it's cheaper than fixing the mess they made. Laissez-faire libertarianism, Somalia-style, makes Soviet-style communism look organized, long-lasting, and productive by comparison.

@36AccountsBlockedRIP Re "Did you really just take Somalia" << Yes. Look at the place. Hardly any taxes or regulations. Almost zero government interference in the rights of free people to manage their affairs. Guns everywhere. Ayn Rand would have gotten wet over how much of a Galt's Gulch that place should be. As we now know from the odious experience of having Trump take a turn in the big chair, at least 30% of the population is psycho, unstable, prone to violence, susceptible to the dumbest propaganda that wouldn't fool a cat, etc, and would behave very badly in the absence of laws. It's probably the same everywhere. I don't think the people of Somalia are much different from the people of Texas or Alabama in that regard.
