@raydemos1181 Why explain with conspiracy what simple stupidity & laziness fully explains? The spending priorities at Surfside showed very clearly how it works. Folks installed plastic sheeting on the ceiling to keep that rusty water off their expensive cars down in the garage .. folks glitzed up the appearance of the building with marble everywhere .. folks voted against fully funding the engineering fixes .. and look what happened. Every condo board has members who simply don't want to pay much. No conspiracy necessary.

@andreacalkins5189 Remember the videos from the garage at Surfside, from a year or two before the collapse? Tenants there voted against expensive assessments for building care, then they bought corrugated plastic sheeting to mount on the ceiling to keep that rusty water (rusty from the rebar weakening!) off their expensive cars. Madness. Probably it's not a good idea to live in a falling-apart building near the ocean, no matter how pretty it can look.

Look what it did to the cars - even if someone had been inside a vehicle, the crushing forces were still too much. Vehicles were nearly flattened :( heavy appliances did nothing to stop concrete slabs from pancaking atop each other :(

Truly, we had the best working on this. A deep thank you to all the rescuers and those who worked on this. Now comes the hard work of figuring out precisely how this happened, what all its many contributing factors were, and making sure it doesn't happen again.

I only came here to see all the Trump fanboys explaining that Trump would have just preserved peace by standing aside while Putin attacks Ukraine. Because appeasement worked so well for Neville Chamberlain back in the 1930s 😅

@Gitn2it A friend of mine in Chicago lives in a building where the condo board has for years been kicking the can down the road by doing regular band-aid fixes to an old boiler system that's long been in need of replacement. After the way they have delayed it, the special assessment to fix it now will be rather steep. It's finally getting fixed now, but only because there was some turnover on the condo board. Just like at Surfside, there were board members who knowingly turned a blind eye to the deteriorating heating system and instead put money into decorative landscaping or other cosmetic things. It hardly needs to be pointed out how much total damage could be caused by heating system failure during the coldest months. Edit: cute handle.
