Suppose you're driving along the road, and you see a homeless person pushing a grocery cart, so you assume (without evidence) that they must have stolen it, so instead of taking a picture and reporting it to the police you try to run them over instead. Umm, no, one imagined wrong is not righted by breaking the law, and in fact that's when you get charged with attempted vehicular manslaughter.
