@truthreigns3465 "Ukraine has already lost" << Who do you imagine, then, is sending long range AI drone swarms deep into Russia to take out refineries and drone factories? Little green men?

Always wanted to take the train trip across Russia. No clue when it will be safe again, if ever, for American tourists.

@seanhewitt603 The numbers spell it out pretty clearly .. Russia hasn't figured out how to take 100 UA soldiers without losing 200+ of its own clayfoots in the process. They bragged recently about bagging a gen1 Abrams, but how many people and other combat vehicles did it cost them? The numbers are not in Russia's favor on this thing. Will be far more lopsided if/when NATO gets involved.

And now they have fully switched roles .. Zelenskyy is the leader whereas Putin is the comedian.

@Tounguepunchfartbox Correct. Things there are going to get worse (probably much worse) before they get any better.

@projectedone And yet, for such an allegedly mighty fighting force, the Lebensraum Conquest-o-Meter is stubbornly stuck at 19%, not far from where it was in 2020. Do you have some good explanation for that? Low morale? Drunkenness?

Wondering if/when Putin is going to start sending women into combat .. at least the ones who have been deemed unfit for child rearing.

@jammmy30 Hmm, from what I hear, all of the loss ratios run the other way around. Like 5GW meeting WW1-era field tactics.

We can thank house speaker chair-warmer Mike Johnson for slowing delivery of Patriot missiles for that one :(

@kevinfelton689 Disposing of your army of specialists? Truly stupid.

There's a cautionary short film on youtube called "Slaughterbots", and no, the genie is not going to be put back into the bottle.

@simonhibbs887 As Zeihan pointed out, the GDP produced per square km is so low in many parts of Russia that they cannot afford to build out the kind of road networks such as have in the West.

You don't even need to ask. :(

Hyperbolic missiles 😅

Putin was warned, by everyone in NATO, not to invade Ukraine. We told him it would be a costly failure. He chose not to listen. As the saying goes - life is rough, but it's rougher when you're stupid.

A wholly-domestic solar panel manufacturing biz should be a hot item (bad pun) in that strong Australian sunshine.

Peter, US law is no better than the people running the system - like when the speaker of the House decides to abdicate its responsibilities for the power of the purse - or like when the judiciary decide not to apply the laws.
1
@passurlamerPerhaps there's some other place Putin wants to invade preemptively to keep them from drifting closer to the west?
1
Funny you should mention that. Back in 2017-2018, Trump was charging expectant Russian ladies to have their births at Swamp-a-Lago so the baby would have US citizenship. The original news articles are still online. It was widely covered at the time.

@dcc70 Russians and Ukrainians are among the largest demographic minorities in each others country, if not THE largest. People have relatives, employees, friends etc all on both sides of the border. One of them is in the process of becoming more aligned with Europe, purging its old Soviet-minded corruption, more prosperous, more democratic, more pointed to the future - while the other one is still a land of outhouses and dirt roads. Putin apparently couldn't let his people see that.
1
@kerwinbrown4180 Sure, as if anyone would find it acceptable if Switzerland or Kazakhstan were to invade neighboring countries to get ocean access.

@jlvandat69 The outcome I particularly fear (if Putin is replaced, if another type of strongman takes his place) is that the new guy would immediately redeploy to prevent Russian losses all over the Federation territory. Thanks to their famously heavy-handed approach, Russian rule is unpopular in former Soviet republics. Methinks this is why the west isn't giving Ukraine enough stuff quickly enough to end the conflict decisively. There is much geopolitical advantage to the west to keep Russia tied down and bleeding longer rather than shorter.

Biden is still doing policy (though not very well) but Trump, through his flying monkeys in congress, is withholding.
1
Putin whining about NATO expansion/encroachment is like a serial arsonist whining about more homeowners buying automatic sprinkler systems.
1
The problem stems from the way Russians don't feel there's any security unless they've occupied their neighboring nations and fortified the outside borders of /those/ nations too. Kind of like how they can't understand the concept of friendly cooperation between peers, as in, having good relations with your nearest neighbors and agreeing where the border is. They are all sticks, no carrots.
1
@projectedone So, making it illegal to speak Ukrainian, changing the names of everything to Russian names, making Russian cities assume the rebuilding costs of sister cities in the conquered territories, taking large numbers of children away to Russify them - these things are not integrating those places into Russia? Err ok.

@Ps5GamerUk Nobody's talking about the election now, are they?
