  58. It's really great Alfa has this car in its range but the biggest problem is that it goes up against the Cayman which is sublime. It could never win this comparison. However, I'm looking forward to the roadster they'll soon present in collaboration with Mazda. That car may change things significantly for the company's image and for the first time I may well consider buying an Alfa Romeo.

Interestingly, in an older video Sutcliffe lapped the same track in 46.5 with the Civic and 46.9 with the Cupra 280. So why would anyone get the Golf?   73. C6SuperchargedZR1 Well, it's a turbocharged straight 4. The only way to make those engines sound good is by fiddling with the exhaust and that's a little artificial. Personally I'm not looking for an interesting noise in such cars because I know I can't find it. The looks are subjective. I think it looks great particularly in dark grey but I like it when hot hatches are understated. I'm 31 years old and last thing I want is to drive a car that looks like a racing car. But that's not really relevant. We're talking about driving here and based on every single review the Leon is a fun car to drive. It's not a Megane RS but it's close while being newer, quicker, offering better equipment and all that for not a lot of money. Overall I think it's the best FWD hot hatch at the moment. Probably the next Megane RS will be better but you never know. They may murder it like they did with the Clio.

  74. amapolishplummer You can get the ACC without the DSG. Stick it to 6th on the motorway and you're good to go. I agree with camelsac. DSG takes away some of the involvement and it's a very involving car. Also, DSG + ACC may add 50kgs which is not insignificant.

On a very tight and twisty track a FWD hot hatch may even be quicker than a 4WD one but not all tracks are tight and twisty. Most proper tracks actually are the opposite. I'm talking about the norm. Anyway, at some point we'll get the Focus RS' Nordschleife lap time so all questions will be answered.

I'm lucky to own the new Leon Cupra and with anything less than 15 degrees Celsius out there the tyres spin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The Civic has almost 30 hp more so you can imagine... Fitting stickier tyres certainly help but you can't drive around with sport cup 2s all the time. Interestingly I read a comparison a few days ago between the Focus, the Golf R, the A45 and the Civic. The track was wet and there was no point driving around in the Civic. I know it's an extreme case but you get the point.

Normal difficulty (I'm not great in the game), I used movement and then the right jab, some ground and pound and finished him with knees in the clinch (he engaged it). I'll try the harder mode but just saying... Edit: Tried the harder mode which ended up being an amazing fight. Jones was more dominant but again with movement and strong body hooks I rocked him 2 times but was unable to finish him. The fight went to the 4th round where he KOd me (well, Cormier) with a high kick right when I was moving out of the way.

Pitting the 220 against the same cars would obviously make it look even better but it wouldn't be any different with every modern hot hatch. The game has moved a lot in these 10+ years. One thing for sure though, the 182 would be better to drive than the 220 despite being slower and I think given the choice, most RS fans would choose the former. I said the VXR MAY be quicker. I hadn't looked at any numbers. I did read it being more or less called the new Clio 200 however because of the way it drives and that's my point. Furthermore, I mentioned the S1 and the Cooper because I've read nothing but praise about the way they drive. More so than the Clio. Finally, a faster car isn't a better car. The GT-R is an excellent example of that. It's ballistic but many prefer slower cars that feel nicer to drive, that are more fun. What you fail to understand is that all the previous Clios became legends because they were special. They didn't really care about comfort and everyday use. Their audience was people who liked driving and wanted to make the compromise. Making the new one more usable and with a paddle-shifter will drive that audience away because it takes away all the fun. There are cars that are more fun to drive and as usable so why bother with the Clio? Being quicker isn't enough. So, as I said, time will tell whether it will become a legend. I'm pretty sure it won't, you say the opposite, let's see who'll be right. Oh, and saying I know nothing about cars is very cheap. Contrary to you I'm not trying to prove I know a lot so drop that idiotic argument.

KIAs have made a massive leap in all areas but they're still not where the established brands are. In every single segment. What does come to Europe is the i30 (among other models of course) and that competes with the Golf, the Astra, the Focus etc. While it's cheaper than those ones you can tell why. It's just not as refined. It's not at their level yet. The same with the KIA Cee'd. Now, I am giving them credit for what you say and I do respect them. You can tell from my first comment. What I don't agree with is that the usual suspects (Merc, BMW, Audi) should watch out because they really shouldn't. Not yet at least. Infiniti and Lexus cannot even get the sales the big German three do and they have very good cars. Especially Lexus. Hyundai/KIA has a very, very long way to go until they threaten Merc, BMW and Audi. That's all I'm saying.

  214. C6SuperchargedZR1 You should have heard my stock 1.2 Opel Corsa without the centre silencer and with an aftermaket final silencer. It sounded like a rally car :D Even the most boring engine can sound good with a bit of tuning. I like it more when they naturally sound good. Right now I have an Astra 1.8 which is completely stock and sounds nice when you rev it. It has that natural, relatively high displacement, rich N/A noise. I'm waiting for my Leon to come in a few months and although I'm very excited I know I'll miss that noise. Your Megane RS is definitely one of the all time greats. If it was new it'd be the one I'd choose. I won't mind if the next RS is softer and more rounded if it keeps some of your car's character. I will mind a lot of they stick a paddle-shifter in it.

I only added front and rear parking sensors and the full bucket seats. I must correct you though. It doesn't have magnetic dampers. They are electronically adjustable but not magnetic. What colour did you get it?

I had the Astra H GTC before I got my Leon Cupra. It was the 1.8 but it was a very good car. Not for that much power though. The chassis was just enough for 140 hp. I once drove the OPC. Very quick but a lot of understeer. Still, a bit of a beast! The Cayman S is a different story. Normally aspirated so it can have a tough time against the top hot hatches. That car is mostly about the handling and the feedback.

Now if someone just doesn't like the Focus or loves Honda and knowingly goes for something less usable, good for him.

If you only care about that you can find it in much, much cheaper cars. I don't think it's about the badge. It has more to do with the sophistication. I also don't think someone who can spend that amount cares about running costs. It certainly feels good having a quick car for a fraction of what other cars of similar pace cost but that doesn't mean you wouldn't buy the expensive one if you could. I drive a Leon Cupra 280 but if I could afford a Cayman S (which is quicker but not by much) I'd definitely buy it.

The new Corsa VXR for example may be quicker than the Clio around a lap and it's definitely nicer to drive. And of course there's the S1 which although more expensive is still cheaper than most sportscars and much much quicker than the Clio. There's also the Cooper S etc. Legends are born from the press. When the press is so lukewarm towards the Clio I very much doubt it will be a legend. Time will tell though. The previous one was a hit straight away. The new one doesn't look like it's going the same way. It's just not special enough.

  456. The separate dial is to lower the headlights when there is extra weight on the back of the car. The whole headlight switch unit is taken from other Audis with a rear boot but since that particular dial doesn't have a function in the R8, it's blanked-off.

Look at what he did at the beginning of the 1st episode of embedded. It was amazing. Look at the things he says in interviews and the way he speaks. In serious interviews. You don't find him funny and that's fine (I even agree to an extend) but saying someone isn't funny is very different than saying he isn't a great guy or an inspiration. Anderson embodies the spirit of a true martial artist. The way of thinking, the respect etc. He has that aura of a very special athlete and man. Very few of them have that. That's why I said he's a real champion. You don't need to have the belt to be that.

But it's not black and white. First of all, all top sportsmen need to have incredible self confidence. Otherwise they won't succeed. Sometimes that passes off like arrogance but I must admit I never thought of Anderson as being arrogant. Just very confident. Regarding his behaviour in the octagon, it is strategy and only strategy. If we take his first fight with Weidman as an example, he was very respectful before that. We see it with Diaz as well. Anderson mocks his opponents in order to break them mentally and it has worked almost every single time. If it does why change it? It didn't work with Weidman obviously so maybe tonight we see something different. I don't agree there's nothing special with Anderson as a man. Not everyone can reach an extremely high level at what they do, stick to it for years and deal with being a superstar successfully. It's extremely difficult and you need to be special to achieve that. I've been watching UFC for about 5,5 years.

The new Genesis isn't available in the UK yet for example. I think it's not even available in Germany. It will be. Big difference. The previous generation wasn't. Anyway, that's of little importance. You're using one of their top models as a reference for the whole brand and I think that's wrong. You're familiar with the Genesis saloon so you're using that example. I'm not familiar with it yet so I'm using the cars I'm familiar with. Regarding the Mercedes thing, I'm pretty sure someone asked them that question and that's why they replied. To be honest, the reply itself says it all. If I'm not mistaken the car won't even be available with a diesel which is a big thing especially for that segment and that market. When you're already at a high level it's much more difficult to make leaps. That's pretty logical. Hyundai started at a very low level so it's easier for them to advance. Of course things change but until that happens they're not a threat for the big guys. I haven't got anything against them so I'd be happy if they actually started making cars as good as the Golf for example. One more option for us buyers. A few years ago I wouldn't even consider buying a Seat but look at them now with the new Leon Cupra which is very, very good. If Hyundai/KIA manage something similar I'll be happy for them. In the meantime I'll be keeping an eye for the Genesis saloon being tested by Top Gear mag. Until then I have no opinion for that particular car.

  513. Well, it's all a little relative. First of all from what I've read, the CLA is quite a bit worse to drive than the A. Regarding 4WD, I've got a 280 hp FWD hot hatch and there are many times in everyday driving that I wish I had 4WD. If you live somewhere where the tarmac is shit you do need it. When you drive fast, you can get on the throttle much earlier in a 4WD car. Most are less fun than RWD ones but they are very effective which is also fun in a way.

Respect in the octagon is shown when someone takes his/her opponent very seriously and prepares for the fight accordingly. And Anderson definitely did that. So, again, it's not lack of respect. Someone either has that or doesn't and Anderson has proved he does.
