How will there be a 'fish glut' if EU are stopped from catching 80% of the fish from UK waters? if you remove the anti-Brexit bias that actually equates to a fish shortage and high prices.

@folkestender2025 So, the EU can buy fish from all over the world but the UK cannot sell fish to all over the world?

@davebox588 Can always knock VAT off fish & chips to support UK fishermen - then when Scotland has its referendum the SNP can say 'vote yes for independence and EU and 20% on your fish supper'.

@folkestender2025 UK does not need to catch or sell all the fish that is currently being caught and sold. UK presently does not have capacity to catch this amount of fish. Even if UK increases its take to 30% of what is currently being caught and sold this leaves 70% shortfall. UK fishermen will have no problem achieving good price for this amount of fish to UK and elsewhere in these market circumstances. UK could introduce sensible conservation of its costal waters and allow regeneration of fish stock. Any boats fishing illegally in UK waters will be stopped and their gear seized.

@davebox588 All fish can be used in fishcakes, fishfingers etc.. Next time you're in a UK supermarket take a look at the frozen fish - you will see basa fillets and these fish are not caught in UK waters. Really, all the species caught in UK waters is used in UK. Yes, some of the fish caught by UK trawlers in UK waters is consumed abroad, but likewise some of the fish caught by EU trawlers is consumed in the UK. End of the day - if EU is not fishing in UK waters and EU is not buying UK fish - this will not be a problem for the UK.
