@CompelledFungus Which right was different based on religion? I seem to remember everyone being entitled to free education, state benefits, free healthcare, state pension - I don't remember anything being different because of religion.

@dannywinters4336 You have to factor in that there was hatred, violence and murder against Protestants emanating from the Catholic community. It's possible this didn't help. Did Catholic employers favour Protestant applicants? I'm not saying the violence was all one-sided, but Scotland managed a more peaceful relationship with the English.

@dannywinters4336 The 'roots' of The Troubles goes back to the 1800s and 'roots' of another kind - in those days all poor people in the UK had a shit life.

@dannywinters4336 Are saying people were turned away from polling stations, because they were Catholic? Are you saying people were prevented from having employment, because they were Catholic? Are you saying people were prevented from having housing or housing benefits, because they were Catholic? What's your evidence for this? Did you know that in Southern Ireland anyone who had volunteered to fight against Hitler was put on a government blacklist preventing them being employed their entire lives? Even the names of those who had been killed in action were on the government blacklist.

@CompelledFungus People in Northern Ireland had the same 'basic human rights' as everyone else in the UK - there were no exceptions based on religion.

@CompelledFungus Well, the onus is on you to provide proof by citing a rule or law pertaining to the people of Northern Ireland which explicitly discriminates against people of Catholic faith.

@CompelledFungus War declared between who? You're beginning to lose me. As far as I know the IRA declared war on the UK, but the UK did not declare war on the IRA, because the IRA was not a state.
