I don't think Russia wants the rest of Ukraine - it's not really possible to govern people when those people don't want to be governed.

Our current politicians would rejoin tomorrow - it's the UK people that want out. What reasons do you think could persuade the UK people to vote to join?

She is not working for the British people; she is working for the EU. Her (and others') plan is to 'leave' in such a way as to make rejoining possible/likely in the near future. A true Brexit (as voted for by the British people) would see the UK thrive as an independent country and politicians never being able to rejoin the UK to the EU... This is what the remainers don't want.

Good point , any future rejoin referendum should require 75% in favour to pass.

@Innoruuk And the other side will say things like: 'Oh! For Heaven's sake not this again!' 'Let's not give up our UK independence.' 'Let's not give up our Pound.' 'Why do we need even more politicians and even more elections?' 'Let's not give the EU £50 billion Euros each year.' 'Let's not advertise UK jobs to 400 million EU people.' 'Let's not advertise UK homes to 400 million EU people.' 'Why allow EU people to use UK schools and hospitals?' 'Let's use UK money for things like the NHS.' 'Why do we need a new president and new flag? 'Why let foreigners decide what countries the UK trades with?' 'The UK already has a trade arrangement with the EU which works.'

We just need someone to help them understand the GFA doesn't mention 'trade' or 'border controls'; perhaps a retired primary school teacher. It must have been apparent at the time either ROI or UK could exit the EU - so plainly, it wasn't an issue. It only became an issue when those opposed to Brexit added the threat of IRA violence to their fear campaign.

How can these regions be 'liberated' if the people there want to belong to Russia?
2
His reason for wanting another referendum is he doesn't like the outcome of the last referendum, so he wants democracy repeated until he gets what he wants.

@Innoruuk OK, let's put it this way: You are in charge of a future join campaign referendum. You have to have some reasons why people would vote for change. What would be your best reason - the message you would put on the join campaign bus?
1
@autumnjacaranda106 Polls mean nothing, because there is not going to be a join referendum in the next 5 years. If there was a join referendum after 5 years there would be 2 campaigns to influence the outcome. In reality, Labour would be taking a massive political risk putting a rejoin referendum in its next manifesto.

@Innoruuk What you claim are 'lies' are really just political arguments you don't like. 'A lie' is to claim something to be true when you know it is not true with the intent to deceive others. I doubt you could cite a statement verbatim that was made by the Leave Campaign and prove it was 'a lie'. Please don't provide a pile of subterfuge, just cite a single statement verbatim, attribute it to the Leave Campaign and demonstrate with fact why you believe it was 'a lie'.

@dentray Wrong! Artillery and infantry are always separate regiments with different insignia. They only appear the same to the untrained eye.

@readesiun988 I think he meant in Southern Ireland.
1
@readesiun988 It's what everyone calls Southern Ireland - even most people that live in Southern Ireland call it Southern Ireland.
1
@readesiun988 Hang on a minute - I'm not calling your people 'ignorant'. If English are 'ignorant' when it comes to the name of your country - why do you want to call it by the name English people gave to it?
1
@readesiun988 The point I was making is the word 'Ireland' is an English word. The way I see it a country's name is whatever people call it. If I say 'Ireland' to people they ask 'Northern Ireland or Southern Ireland? That's just the way it is. People in Germany use 'Deutschland' but I bet you don't.
1
@readesiun988 Honestly, no one thinks it's a problem, so there's no disrespect. People in UK do use 'Ireland' but if it's necessary to indicate the country they will use 'Northern Ireland' or 'Southern Ireland'. It seems odd to use 'Ireland' for one part of it - like using 'Britain' for 'England'.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump cancels when Starmer is mid-air and is then photographed playing golf.
1
@fuzzylogic3017 Why would the UK electorate vote to rejoin?
1
@tessax I think men 18-60 have been ordered to stay.
