@bradleigh10 Exactly! If it was was more - say £2000 or £2750 or £4500 or maybe £12000 then obviously she would have paid up - this is such a 'non-story'!

@IMBlakeley The alleged wrongdoing is not declaring the property as a taxable asset. If she had told HMRC the property was not her main home, then she might have been able to use the cost of improvements to lower the amount of taxable profit. The police investigation has a 'public interest' aspect, because AR is an elected MP who holds a 'position of public trust'. She says she has done nothing wrong so the police investigation should exonerate her.

@katrinabryce Obviously 'capital gains tax' is paid on money gained and money spent is not money gained. The issue here is should AR have declared the property as being subject to tax on any sale profit. A married couple can only claim one property as being exempt from tax.

Yes, but 'living life like poor person' doesn't make a person less greedy, more concerned about others or give a person the ability to deal with complex issues. The reason the Tories have attacked her is because it looks like she and her husband bought and sold two council houses and dodged paying tax on the profit. Now she's going about saying councils have been selling houses too cheap. The Tories know millions of young people are very angry they cannot get a council home or get on the housing ladder - so this story is 'election gold' for the Tories.
