  1. Usually, people don't bring this type of case to court, because if they fail to satisfy the judge the defendant did spread untruth, then they would likely have to pay the defendant's legal costs as well as their own. This makes me think Elon Musk is behind this...

  9. Ordinary people get very angry when children are murdered in horrific circumstances and they see it as a direct consequence of lax immigration policy. From what I have seen Peter had done nothing to warrant a custodial sentence of any kind. This looks to have been direct political interference in the judicial system. The Home Office referring to accused people as "criminals" before any trial and a political leader demanding "substantive sentences." Anyone charged with a crime should be allowed sufficient time to have expert advice and consider how they should plead to a charge. There should be reasonable time to prepare for court. The way these people were thrown into remand and clearly pressured into making rushed guilty pleas, then summarily dragged before a judge to be publicly berated and severely punished while a baying MSM called them 'racist thugs' was like witnessing roland freisler and his people's court.

  11. When we use the term 'Brexit' we inevitably refer to a situation created by a parliament made up of lifelong pro-EU political activists. In 2016, the Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems, SNP all supported the UK being subsumed into an increasingly federal Europe. Today, if parliament was allowed a (no referendum) free vote on joining the EU, it's likely 80% of MPs would vote to surrender the people's sovereignty to a foreign parliament in which the UK people would have 10% representation. The 2024 'National Rejoin March' attracted around 500 people.

  14. There are no members of Reform UK, because it's not a membership organisation. I think a reasonable minded person would think anyone could turn-up and say anything; this would not make them a spokesperson for Reform UK or a typical Reform UK supporter. I could pick up a guitar and sing ten songs about racial prejudice, Deportees, Death of Emmett Till, Oxford Town, Hurricane, Blowing In The Wind. The reason I am voting for Reform UK, is if polls are correct, 80% of voters will vote not to rejoin the EU and we will end up with 80% of MPs wanting to rejoin the EU. Our political establishment is unrepresentative and dishonest.

  15. I think the idea behind the plan is to deter those with weak cases applying for asylum/residency in the UK. Because, it's not going to be possible to make yourself known to the official process without putting yourself at risk of detention and being sent to Rwanda. So, I think many will go underground or move to another country.

  18. I think because the sentence is less than one year the rules state he can stay on as an MP, but his constituents will now be able to call for a petition for a by election. If enough constituents sign the petition there will be a by election in which he would be able stand, but Labour would probably choose a new Labour Party candidate.

  20.  @ProfessorTimWilson  Significant numbers of Russian people have settled in Ukraine from around 1600 which is more than a century earlier that Britain taking control of Gibraltar. Also, there was a referendum in Eastern Ukraine in 2014 prior to the Russian Army invasion. There is video evidence suggesting this was peaceful and well supported and a majority being in favour of independence from Ukraine. The only violence reported by the BBC: "At least one person is reported to have been killed by armed men loyal to Ukraine's government."

  24. The people in those disputed regions are mostly Russian speakers that because of Ukraine persecution want to be with the Russian Federation. The US, EU and UK has decided (to prevent bloodshed) the people of Northern Ireland should decide the political status of the land they live on - why does the same ethic not apply to the people who are suffering from this war? There were around ten million Russian speakers in Ukraine and the Ukrainian government banned the Russian language in education, on TV and in employment. Are supporters of Zelensky wanting to ban the Irish language in Northern Ireland?

  28. My guess is some people will be going to prison. The police have well trained experts in this area and modern methods of transferring money leaves a record. It's not unusual for an accountant to want to see the petty cash - never mind want to know where hundreds of thousands of pounds have gone. If the police are digging up gardens - it's serious.

I was in Austrailia last year and the law enforced helmets on bicycles, quads and motorcycles, yet the kids were riding electric bikes to school with no helmet. (Law might have changed now).

It was the East Ukrainians that fought bravely against Hitler. The same East Ukrainian people whose Russian language and Christian religion has been outlawed by Zelensky. The same East Ukrainian people whose villages were bombed by Kiev's Azov Brigade troops wearing nazi wolfsangel insignia. The same East Ukrainian people who have voted to be independent from Ukraine.

  35. I remember my Dad saying in the 70s/80s/90s that 'Europe' would eventually bring about the end of the Conservative Party. Reform UK are currently polling 10% (much more in some constituencies) and are not standing down at the next GE - so it's possible many Conservative MPs will have a big decision to make. In 2015 UKIP gained 12.6% of the national vote and 1 MP, whereas, SNP gained 4.7% of the national vote and 56 MPs. That 'democratic' anomaly was brushed over by painting UKIP voters to be 'out of touch loons' not representing 'the people' on a major policy issue. At the next GE Reform UK will be able to say 'We actually represent what 52% of the people voted for' and point out their 'Brino' problems directly to the electorate.

When I listened carefully to Andrew Parker using an unnatural 'cockney racist thug' voice on the Reform campaign trail; it occured to me he was really trying to coax other canvassers to make offensive remarks.   41. Some are claiming people in the UK are much worse off as a direct result of Brexit and use UK price increases to demonstrate this. However, independent analyses using actual wage/price data shows that, in 2016, UK cost of living (Europe) was higher (6) than France (10) and Germany (15) and in 2023, the UK cost of living (17) is lower than France (9) and Germany (14). This can only mean that, since voting to leave the EU, the UK has become an easier place to eke out a living and that, Brexit is likely a factor, as plainly, France and Germany have both remained in the EU.

Andrew Parker was a volunteer who turned up saying he wanted to help canvass. Let's assume for the sake of argument Andrew Parker is a genuine bigot. It's hardly appropriate journalism in the midst of a general election campaign to smear more than 600 candidates on the basis of inappropriate remarks made by a volunteer they had never met. Personally, I think the circumstantial evidence strongly suggests it more likely than not Andrew Parker was part of the sting operation to damage Reform UK. It might be Andrew Parker was not meant to feature on TV, but was there to goad remarks and was inadvertently used by C4 staff.

Whatever some people are answering to some polling questions during a cost of living crisis; a referendum of 35 million voters on joining the EU against a stable UK economic background and after an extensive and exhaustive campaign, is going to be a very different kettle of fish. There could be 20% keen on EU membership, but there will be 20% equally determined on UK independence and this leaves 60% who are really not that bothered. The 'join' side (asking for change) would have to persuade 11 million of these voters to give up political independence, give up the pound, pay the EU fees, accept freedom of movement, hold even more elections for even more politicians and appear to the world like a nation that cannot make it in the world. I fail to see what the 'join' side could possibly offer these people passed a 1970s Coca Cola advert and a pie in the sky promise of a better economy...

  48. This will likely pan out like most divorces. Both parties will cooperate and make compromises while the kids are in education and there are shared family, social and financial interests, but in time will find their own separate lives. Personally, I think it's almost inevitable for reasons of culture, trade and defence the UK will strengthen existing ties with Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
