@ProfessorTimWilson Significant numbers of Russian people have settled in Ukraine from around 1600 which is more than a century earlier that Britain taking control of Gibraltar. Also, there was a referendum in Eastern Ukraine in 2014 prior to the Russian Army invasion. There is video evidence suggesting this was peaceful and well supported and a majority being in favour of independence from Ukraine. The only violence reported by the BBC: "At least one person is reported to have been killed by armed men loyal to Ukraine's government."
