  3. Ukrainians voted for Zelensky to make peace. Instead Zelensky allowed his military to continuously step-up shelling in Donbas against Russia until Putin hardly had any choice to be react. When he reacted he sent in 200K Russian Troops almost in a dare against an 800K man Ukrainian military with American weapons - not to do damage, but to stop the fighting - kind of in dare for Ukraine to react. Ukraine was under orders from the US and NATO and their local Ukrainian Nationalists to not stop the fighting but to step it up - and this war was the result. That is the best narrative I could put together from listening to both sides. This has always been a war of American expansion - for minerals and to keep Russia out of the EU economy. Why be surprised - this is what great powers do they compete and try to grab land and resources for themselves and expand their system - which not-to-great powers do as well.

  4. What you are saying at the end is not what Putin said. Putin said he was fine with Ukraine having self-determination, but Russia had interests there too. He was trying to work that out with Yanukovych when the coup happened. So far as we know the US has political, military and economic interests in all countries and when a country does something, like for instance Ukraine walking out on negotiations with Russia because of Western pressure. The fear you are talking about are likely from US scare tactics, like we will instigate a war and you will be caught in the middle. Nato can also be looked at like a protection racket. I think Putin's narrative wasn't perfect, but it was about as close to the truth as any country's official narrative including our own.

Ian, I think your whole thesis of "no news made" while correct missed the point that if you stated most of what you call no news during the last two years on a discussion board on the Washington Post you'd get deleted or banned. If one tried to just bring up one or two facts about Ukraine, a swarm of someone's propganda trolls would descend and attack you with insults while posting activity would go up and the whole conversation would run way off the bottom of the page.

  6. The only thing that matters is what Putin said. All the analysis of Tucker Carlson's Putin interview is about Carlson. I've not seen a single piece about the analysis of what Putin said - and that is the only thing that matters. Vladimir Putin is 71 years old. Trump is 77 and Biden is 81. Putin talked coherently for 2 hours and 20 minutes to Tucker Carlson the other day. Could either of our American Presidents do that? It is embarrasing to see that. Putin is sharp. He knows his facts, and he presents them well.

  10.  @davidpritchard604  Putin actually had to earn his position - even though Russia is not democratic, he would not be there if there was enough push back - and, he has done more for the Russian people. Putin is a very smart man. I may not agree with how Russia is governed, or China for that matter, but outcomes and the lives of their citizens do matter. I think if you take some time and look at the news from US media you see the cracks in the truth whenever Russia is the subject. Meanwhile our dear President Trump is talking about invading Denmark to wrest Greenland from it.

  12. What YNH is saying is just one person's opinion. It is absurd to pretend the problem is Jewish Supremacy. It really undermines all the stuff he writes about. When it gets to trying to come up with a solution, the Palestinians refuse to let themselves into any solution but murder and violence. You can talk until you're blue in the face but the Palestinians have bent themselves so far away from civilized human behavior they will never give up trying to destroy Israel and kill Jews. That is the problem you need a solution for - not some theoretical everyone lives in peace fantasy that will never happen. The prevention from another 10-7 is the goal, not YNH's egomania.

  14. Ian Bremmer, you are such a snarling poodle when it comes to defending Ukraine. Crimea belongs to Russia. Yes, it was part of the USSR, but it has belonged to Russia for hundreds of years and the strength of Ukraine's claim on Crimea is totally about the US manipulation of Ukraine into war with Russia - and Ukraine has only controlled Crimea since the 1950s. Russia sank huge investments into Crimea which is a strategic asset for Russia and I think Russia's claim should have been recognized. The cost of US interference here based on an administrative error that URRS's Premier Kruschev made is so weak and has done so much damage - it is insane. You should not be supporting it, at least on the basis of who it legitimately belongs to. Just admit that our reasoning on this is to buttress US economic hegemony in Europe. If we had not allowed our country to become so weak and corrupt we would not have to worry about Russia or China. The world cannot continue to war and fight - we must find a way to work together, and Trump's lunatic ranting only ruins the brand of America putting us into the threat category of Russia, China and even Iran.

  16. YNH is talking out his backside. First, the history of the world is not that countries did not invade other countries, and second, that is not what Russia did. Ukraine and Russia were very close after the fall of the USSR. Ukraine was even about 1/3 of Russia's economy and the US worked hard to peel Ukraine away from the Russia with promises and by dirty tricks and ultimately a coup. Before that Ukraine's President Yanukovych wanted to set it up so that Ukraine could trade with both the EU and Russia, and he a neutral intermediary. That was not what the US wanted, so Ukraine had it's revolution, heavily backed, supported and strategized by the US and the West. To Putin this was unacceptable, but he had to accept it, so he did, but he wanted to make an exception for Crimea, which is a very valuable strategic asset for Russia, and which was given to Ukraine for administration in the 1950's by Kruschev. It was never part of Ukraine before, and in fact a lot of Ukraine's territory was ceded to it by Russia over time. A compromise between Russia and Ukraine could have happened that allowed peace if Russia was allowed to annex Crimea again as it used to be pre-1950s. In fact most Ukrainians voted for Zelensky because he promised such a peace, but then as the OSCE reporting shelling of the Donbas buffer zone between Ukraine and Crimea intensified week after week to the point where it was pretty much war against their own people, and Russia rightfully or wrongfully began it's Special Military Operation, a police action of about 200K soldiers against the 800K Western equipped army of Urkaine. It was not an invasion or it would had consisted of many times more soldiers.

  23. 3:20 - The Europeans have given $135 billion in aid to Ukraine, while the US has given $110 billion. That is something that is not reported on ... EVER that I have seen or heard in the media. Trump makes it out like the Europeans have done nothing.
