  1. the problem is that we do not "manage" our technology, because if we did and looked at all the consequences and "externalities" the interactions are so complex and unknown that we would not have to use all this tech, powerful, fun and interesting as it is, in a chronic urgent way … EXCEPT FOR WAR. WAR is the destroyer of abundance … in my opinion.

Considering what he is saying it's worth thinking about, but the trends on most of those stats that he mentioned are heading the wrong way - and the political system is inflexible and getting reactionary - while the global supply system is getting brittle and susceptible to collapse - or it requires more energy to keep it all going, and there is more risk.

  4. Who care if we can make a robot to play Jeopardy … wake me when they have some robots that are going to clean up all the plastic in the ocean. This kind of rah-rah hand-waving cheerleading is kind of annoying when all points of view are not considered.
