I suppose the responsible thing to do is to try the agreement and then see how things are on the ground in Iran over time. We can always go to war, the agreement will give us a real reason if it is broken, and we will have time to plan and survey what is on the ground. The government of Iran needs to be ousted in my opinion and will be eventually.

***** The United States is not perfect, and has made mistakes. Mistake made at the national level can hurt a lot of people. I do agree in hindsight that the Shah was probably a bad idea, or we should have replaced him when the secret police got out of hand - however .... who was he trying to defend Iran against? The same Islamic extremists we see all over the world now. Maybe the Shah was not such a bad idea considering Irans were Westernizing and for the most part liked it, and miss it. Iranians have nothing to say about it now. Certainly not a democracy or a republic, the people have no choice because the government says Allah is in charge. I think you should stop trying to anthropomorphize governments ... countries do not "like" each other, countries like corporations are not people. How US intervention is looked at depends on your perspective. Look at Syria and tell me the people are going to get change. What happens when things get so pressurized is the rise of groups like ISIS, not the spread of democracy. You are repeating nice slogans you have heard, but that have little basis, except maybe a few valid points ... but valid points do not a rule make.

Zorro in Hell >> which is the reason Iran is in the state its in now! You don't know enough about Iran to say that or prove it. Iran and all the Islamic countries are fucked up places and have been for a very long time. You are judging these placed by Western Standards, and standards of the 50's from the last century. It was the cold war. If you knew how important oil was in WII, one of the big deciding factors, you might understand more the overreaction of the US and West, and you might also think about the investment it took to get Iran producing oil and that the Western companies did not want to lose that.

***** >> it isn't the US's responsibility to CHANGE governments. These people have to want to be free Of course they do, they just have no direction to move in the societies they live in. The US can help with that, and there is a price to everything. The US did not do too badly fixing up Japan And Germany after WWII. There are no more Nazis in power or Imperial Japanese. You want to see an order and a morality at the international level that does not yet exist.
