  1. Me too. I am less worried about Kamala, but I do hope she goes for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Shapiro looks too young and wet behind the ears kid. She and Walz are the same age, and they both are not afraid to speak out.

I think Kelly seems better than he would be - and in a state like Arizona would probably not bring many voters with him. I like Josh Shapiro, but he is Jewish and he looks like a kid, and he talks like a kid. I think someone who has energy and the ability to talk and seem normal for a change would ... excuse the expression ... trump all of that, and Walz would be a great pick I think. Walz just exudes confidence and security and middle class normalcy in the way no one else does.

  3. Tim has been very perceptive and correct on many of his points. Kamala has just weeks to campaign, and the first ad she came out with was blah. She spoke the truth, but she needed the bang of Trump's former associates ... she blew it. She need to slam MAGA which is more disliked than Trump himself.

  4. LOL, That was impressive! Tim Miller ran Mehdi Hasan's ass all over the place forcing Mehdi to agree with him. Miller is a rhetorical genius. An interesting argument would have been to say who should Jews have voted for after or during WWII where the US with US bombs bombed trains with POWs on them, and Jews headed for the death camps, or the death camps themselves, or the rocket factories where they had slave labor. Or who should the Japanese Americans have voted for, although that was is more sensitive, if they even got to vote after American had bombed Japan into oblivion? Hasan is a very clever person a great arguer ... I won't say debater because he does not debate he does the weave, like Trump. They are both deeply dishonest in my opinion. The issue is the over-arching solidarity of Muslims all around the world that hate Jews and actively work for their deaths and dehumanization. I could say I really don't like Muslims, though I have several Muslims friends, but if they showed signs of antisemitism that would be a problem for me. So I don't particularly like Muslims or vocal politically active Muslims because I think they work against America and I cannot tell perfectly which Muslims are "secular" and which are peaceful and which are radicalized. I worked with a kid from Pakistan and a man from India and they would occasionally blow off signs of holding Islam higher than America. Very clear they came to America to get education and make money - and screw any American they had to put up with. I think I have the right to comment on that, and express my extreme dislike for people who do that and opinions that those people should not be here without being called Islamophobic. I would be happy to support a politician who wanted to bad extremist Muslims - though no matter what I would not vote for Donald Trump.

  5. Mehdi Hasan benefits like Trump does by having real serious people platform him. Hasan calls himself a socialist or progressive - and both of those descriptors scream democratic where all citizens and genders have equal rights. The problem is that if you look around there are all kind of videos where Hasan describes himself as a devout Muslim. From a discussion where he confounds Richard Dawkins, and wastes his time saying that he believes LITERALLY that Mohammad flew to the moon and split it in half on the back of a donkey to videos where he is agreeing with Islamic beliefs that Islam must spread all over the world and rid the world of non-Muslims as well. Somehow he has avoided showing this side of him while he infiltrates the programming and minds of real Progressives and the TV screens of aveage Americans who don't seem to understand what Progressivism is anymore after all this disinformation and lies. I think Mehdi Hasan is a very dangerous agent of radical Islam. An antisemite and hater of Israel and spreader of misinformation about Israel's genocide in Gaza ... and of everything Israel does, and silence about Hamas' attack on Oct 7th. I guess I'd say that someone who starts the show lying about themselves and who they are is not someone there is much value in listening to. Point being hard for Mehdi call himself a democrat ( small-d ), Socialist, or Progressive when he does not believe in the ultimate humanity of non-Muslims and who expresses belief in Islam to the point where he would take up arms against Israel and drive Jews & Christians into the sea - i.e. genocide. He would have non-Muslim under the sword, or paying ransom for their own lives under the Islamic jizzya as subhuman non-citizens. Sorry that you have this guy on your program, Tim. I'd love it if you take some time or a show to explain why? Maybe to persuade some Michigan Muslims not to vote for Trump or sit out the 2024 election and instead vote for Kamala Harris. I guess mathematically that makes some sense, but yuck!

  9. Americans are conservative ... even the Liberals, and they/we don't like new and we don't like change - especially in a chaotic moment such as this. That does not bode well for Kamala Harris - but the barrier for removing Harris is as tough as the barrier of removing Biden. I think the time is for an FDR2 moment. Biden should go on the road and promise Americans a lot of good things if they give him a Democratic House and Senate. He talks a little about taxing the rich. That is not enough. He should show a specific plan and make promises ... which is no worse than what Trump did or has done. Say raise the cap for the rich on Social Security, save Medicare. Save abortion, living wage ... don't parcel it out until they think they have enough ... go whole hog, and say we know you are hurting and we hear you. Fix the buidling of houses, fix and increase Social Security, fix Medicare, get people connected to the Internet ... work toward free education for all. All the things that every other democratic Western country has - say we are not going to just play catch up, we are going to take leadership again. Basically the Democrats have plummetted so badly that I have to wonder if they are not being bribed or threatened to fail. No one is buying the scare-tactics around Donald Trump and no one trusts the Democrats because they feel like maybe the Democrats are for all these things but they are going to happen after everyone living today is dead - so who cares?

  11. And another thing is that the US is caught with its pants down vix energy - because we have failed to build nuclear power infrastructure. Odd that Ukraine has so much nuclear power ... I think it was 60% of its energy. instead of reporting on any of this stuff, we just hear story after story about how mean Russia is, and how Putin is such a dictator. On the other hand the average person's life in both Russia and China is getting better while the average American worker's life is becoming almost impossible for health case, housing, education, transportation, etc. I hear more support for BS from AA, than I do information about these supposed autocracies work. Then we hear in the US how immigration is such an issue for most Americans - and how Orban cut immigration. The result now since Palestine invaded Israel is that all these Muslims in Western countries, and our own young people/students are rioting because they don't understand a thing about what is really going on. Anti-Semitism and stabbings and crime and division is boiling over.

  19. Gentlemen, great podcast. Another brilliant take on this crisis is Ezra Klein's essay about safety - that Donald Trump on all counts makes us much less safe. I thought Kristol's idea about the NATO Commander for VP was worth considering and moving on. Glad I found this podcast - it is one that I do not have to skips weeks and wereks of because they are irrelevant or unlistenable. Keep up the great work. The point that when it comes to the difference between Democrats and Republicans ... a good fallback position for an uncertain candidate who has not been elected, That Trump put the whole country at stake for his ego, and make us scare stories about the border or Biden being the worst President ever, by far. Compare that with Biden who willingly gave up the Presidency for the country. Good narrative.

  24. I am so interested in AA's book, but when I hear stuff like Hungary is taking orders from Donald Trump when he is out of power .... it really makes me skeptical. I am sure there is some kind of massive political machine somewhere in some way, but I don't think Donald Trump is at the head of it. I could be wrong, but all this stuff begs for conspiracy theories because there is not enough information to really base any world view on. I read a lot of Ukraine, and how the US couped the Ukrainian government and drive the President out of the country. Then there was shelling and war in the Donbas for 8 years, and here we are calling it a great democracy, in which Zelensky got elected because he promised Ukrainians that he would keep the peace - and the shelling kept on - and in fact increased. That doesn't make sense. The US actions led directly to war, and if we don't accept that, it was true that Boris Johnson went to Turkey and broke up negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. I think a book as she writes ought to keep free of debateable history and focus on what we know about the mechanics of how the world works and how this system stays in power. And if Michael Steele actually believes this stuff ... how is he so involved in these systems? Especially the Republicans. A main point here seems to be to make democracy neutered by keeping people insulated from reality so that we can push around Russia and China. That may be necessary, but why is there no attempt to incentivize or convince Americans to support a national of global project to do this ... and why are we are involved in the UN when it is obviously totally corrupt? I want to know how and where are all these organizations run, and who works for them, and if they exist, how do they keep it under wraps? How is no one spoken out. It makes the whole of humanity as individuals irrelevant.

  31. Love the Bulwark ( one of the few podcasts I check out daily. Love Tim Miller and Adam "Kissinger" as so many seem to call him, but the Russia stuff I don't love so much. What a useless war, destroyed Ukraine and killed Ukrainians when they voted for Zelensky to make peace. How wars escalate is that the propaganda gets so strong and far from the truth, on both sides and both sides want to save face so escalation ensues. As an American I feel like if the US needed this to ensure we did not lose economic hegemony in Europe - so be it. I'm all for America. But, we should clear about it in America, like Kamala was about the US military. Our country has no mission statement any longer, like we used to have the spreading democracy, or the arsenal of demcoracy. No one talks about this any longer - it is all BS name-calling and lies, a with Trump. If our society is so fractured that the government needs to move on ignoring the people, that may be one source of our problems.

  32. Once things move towards war - an involved country is obligated to propgandize or at least confuse their people to support it. Putin said a lot of things before the war going back years, and then we had European leaders later saying they signed the Budapest Agreement with no intention of honoring it. They were moving to and covertly declaring war against Russia at that time. We couped the Ukrainian government. Trump is the one who first sent weapons to Ukaine, and to goad the Russians shelling from Ukraine to the Donbas was monotonically increasing day by day until something had to happen. And why was Russia even interested in the Donbas? Because they knew the US wanted to push war to take Crimea away from Russia, which had made the mistake in the 50's or giving Crimea to Ukraine. Just to be fair, I don't see why ( My government surely did not tell me, unless I am to believe that we were against the evil Russians? ) the US had to do that? Yanukovych was trying to place Ukraine as a neutral trading partner with Russia - and the US needed to stop that. We, the US, also needed to cut Russia off from getting revenue from gas through the pipelines - so SOMEONE, probably us, or charged by us, blew the pipelines. That pushed Russia toward China and forced a path of war or at least non-cooperation with Russia and China both. We know that Russia was not militarized to go to war, and China is never going to attack Taiwan because they have too much business there. Then, surprise, after the Covid pandemic, the US economy comes out the strongest in the world. OK, great, but it really did not help the working Americans, who don't seem to count. Then this led to the forming of the new Axis of Evil, Russia, China, and Iran, and North Korea even - right a time when the world is burning up and flooding from Climate change. Who plans this stuff, and who gets to weight in. This is not just about autocracy - and when you look at democracy in the US, we are going that way too, and may have been there since at least 2000 when the Supreme Court appointed Bush President.

  37. A think I liked about this was that here are two real regular Americans for once in a Presidential campaign. I mean Obama went to Harvard and was supposed to be this massive genius, and was very articulate, but he did things like talking about Health Care Reform and then switched it to Health Insurance Reform ... and I won't even go into the dishonest nonsense from MAGA & the GOP. There were two regular upstanding Americans who are not multi-millionaires, did not go to elite colleges and who had to really work to get to where they are today. It is amazing that we have the chance to vote for regular Americans to represent regular Americans. Right?

There are quite a few videos of him here and on Twitter being quite open and honest about who and what he is. There is a debate with Richard Dawkins where Dawkins says he gives Mehdi the benefit of the doubt that he does not believe that Mohammad flew to the moon on the back of a donkey literally, and Hasan interrupts him and says - no, no I do, it is the word of the Koran and he believed it was the absolute truth. So what about all the war on Christians and Jews - and forcing Non-Muslims to either convert, or submit to paying the Jizzya, or dying. This is serious stuff - I think.

JFK was my favorite President as a kid, and I really liked him, and I believe he was assassinated, like so many in the 60's by radical Right-wing interests - who we may never know - so I was interested in RFKjr., and I too listened to all his speeches and read two books of his - and decided he was a crank.   49.  @bethdavis9975  I half agree with you, and the other half thinks, this is not an election to go with just "OK". Given the short time people have to get to know these candidates, and how quickly likeable and what a good speaker Tim Walz is, if we want to win, he is the one to go with. Plus the two are the same age, 60, and I think they will be better able to cooperation and work together. We want to be able to pull in swing voters or on the fence voters, and I think an older white guy balances the ticket in that way as well. Also, Walz is a guy who I think will not just sit there as VP. I think it would be a big mistake not to go with him ... big, meaning significant.

Question: at the end of he convention, after Kamala's speech they all got up on the stage, and I saw what I thought looked like an older Indian man, with grey/white hair and a goatee kind of just standing there alone with no one beside him and I was wondering who he was. I'm thinking he was Kamala's father, but everyone is saying they are estranged and he did not show up - but I think that was him. Can anyone confirm that?
