  4. This story bugs me. I lived on this street working in Silicon Valley in the 90's, now own a home. I lived down the street from here on Escuela St. in the 80's when I was in college. Most of the people in RV's and living on the streets like this are Americans ... so why make this about illegal immigrants? Or immigrants at all. Without just luck and some training in the right things I might be out there myself or still might be someday. The game in the US is rigged, but bringing in illegal immigrants and making them the issue is just a distraction from the political evolution of this country.

The thing is that nuclear power is very clean compared with everything else ... except solar and wind. Now ... long term there would be an argument against nuclear power, but short term ... as in, we need to change our ways - yesterday ... there is nothing that could "save the planet" like nuclear.  But as Fukushima showed everyone, greedy stupid people are what the problem is with nuclear. The argument ought to be, can the world somehow rise above the greed and stupidity of human beings and utilize nuclear power safely?  NOT, whether someone of a certain opinion is a loon. Did you know that nuclear materials have to be stored for thousands of years whether or not nuclear power is used.  There are natural geological strata that act like nuclear power plants (look it up), and at least some of the heat from inside the planet is generated from nuclear fission. Like computers, programming, biology, neuroscience, etc ... the people of the planet need to come to terms with and understand nuclear power.  Is that possible?

  10. I used to live right on this street in the 90's ... there is a huge apartment complex there overlooking the train tracks ... and it is loud. I used to park out on the street there and not in my parking place until my car got run into. I feel for the people who are living on the street like this, and there are, and should be many places where they can park if they do not cause problems. They are doing their best trying to survive life in a very tough place. I do not support illegal immigrants, but I do not support harrassing them or exploiting them either.

  11. i think the only solution to this is to level society and the economy. It is the mischief of billionaires, or people who are so rich and powerful they can manipulation companies and governments. That is poison to democracy, or even rule of law. There must be a ceiling to the amount of money and power one person can have ... and that conflicts with the basic idea of what we think of as America. Our powerful people in America are not concerned with making America better, they are concerned with getting control of the American war machine and military intimidation. Having citizens with the power, the reach and the will to do that while stomping all over citizens is a kind of crime against humanity. Making sure no one can ever get that powerful is the only way I can think of to curtail this corruption of our country and manipulation of our lives.

Looking at the history of FOX News in the US, and how it has bred discord and spawned more and more right-wing extremism, I don't see this helping anything, this is just manipulation by FOX to spread a divisive agenda and a lot of fear. This is pure innuendo and ignorance. I don't know, maybe there is a threat or something to fear from Muslims in certain cases, but FOX News does not help the public understand whatever it might be, it just riles them up with ambiguity. That said, I do find it a little creepy that these folks have to make their own isolated village like this ... it reminds me a little of Jonestown. I do see a potential problem here and there is a discussion that should happen around that, but FOX News vilifying what are so far innocent people just trying to live their lives ... that is not right, and it is what FOX does all the time. FOX should be removed from the US, or at least their News division, it needs to be spun off or regulated to allow more points of view and check their facts ... FOX is like President Trump, always lying, and that is not the basis for a country or a culture.

There will be no democracy and it will be, not slavery, but something no so far from it, only those who exploit workers will not even have the responsibility to take care of them. Stupid people have allowed this without being aware of it. The whine and complain but more people do not vote now than vote, and very few are informed or politically involved. They drag everyone else down. What is needed is regulation and progressive taxes, and the private interests and lobbyists already have so much power it is doubtful that will happen without a complete breakdown of the system, and more likely that the private interests will hold us hostage to gain more power.

  25. I get the message here and I agree with it, but putting in these shots of kids singing a nice song as a way to fill the average Muslim space in our brains seems kind of annoying. Kids are not the problem here, nor are the majority of Muslims, and those kinds of media tricks seem condescending and insulting the intelligence of viewers in a way.

  31. I agree with you somewhat in sentiment, but the fact is that the USA cannot allow everyone in the world to live here, and there is a lot of illegal immigrant crime. The existence of so many cheap laborers does depress wages of other people. My girlfriend works as a nanny, at below what I think of as a living wage. She has no hope to save or retire in this area because a lot of the other nannies she works with are willing to work for slave wages. They also have no education and training for the job - they are warm bodies that get exploited, and that exploitation can be followed eight up the chain to tech workers. The problem is aggravated by the property owning class that has access to demographic research to tell exactly how much rent they can squeeze out of the people living here, and then they also use political influence to limit the building of new houses and apartments. I agree with the sanctuary city policies, but we cannot just open the borders. With the prevalence of Mexicans here, and I have lived in this area for over 40 years, graffiti is all over the place ... of a Mexican nature. They buy diamond scribes and carve graffitti into shop windows and public restroom mirrors. it is more complex than just blaming immigrants for crime, because generally their crime rate is less than non-immigrants, but that also includes legal immigrants in the minority and poor communities, The statistics do not really tell the truth and are used to spin a story that is somewhat untrue. Just spinning all those positive words is a bit dishonest however good intentions might be.
