  2. A brilliant condensed and efficient version of the Ukraine war is done on the latest RFK Jr. Podcast with ( weirdly ) former Reagan era Budget Direct, David Stockman. The clarity that Stockman brings to understanding the Ukraine situation is undeniable and really needed. Stockman points out that Ukraine is many times more divided than the US Red-Blue divide, to the point of an 8 year shooting war, and how in all other cases with the exception of Ukraine the answer to ethnic divisions in the US/UN/NATO has been to partition countries and place UN peacekeepers inside, but in Ukraine the US has leveraged the anti-Russian nature of these divisions to foment a war that is killing Ukrainians on both sides and destroying their country - and costing us Americans boatloads of cash at a time when we are supposedly worried about overspending. I'm happy to listen to this lady, but I expect more anti-Russian BS. Let's see.

  5. Yeah, I found most of what this woman said to be weasel words that were almost all dishonest in multiple ways. Like she said she had to work really hard to find ways for people in Donbas to go to University ... when another of her peers was talking about how Ukrainian children would be out and about in the sunlight going to school while Russian children would be cowering bunkers being shelled. The complicitness of the US government in his makes me feel terrible to be an American. Even if all Americans were somehow to benefit from weakening Russia through unilateral war, this is not right, it is not global leadership, and it is destroying America's economy, making life very difficult and unequal for Americans, and destroying the world's environment. It needs to stop and everyone needs to chart a new course without war.

  6. 35:40 - I'd have to disagree that she is fighting for the survival of her country day by day. She is fighting to expand undemocratic rule which all Ukrainians voted against, or thought they were voting against when they voted for Zelensky for President ... and got a big destructive surprise that I bet if you asked all Ukrainians 90+% of them would not want to have gone to war and would have agreed to Minsk, or dividing the country or anything except what their nationalist military forced on them. Really great job though Freddie did in getting this phrased in as dressed up was as possible.

  8. First thing I notice is this lady's young age, and probable inexperience, which points to a political appointment or someone that higher powers are manipulating - much like Zelensky. Dishonesty #1 - Maybe this lady wants to try to imagine what life was like for ethnic Russians in the Donbas getting shelled for 8 years solid by Ukrainian nationalist forces which to get elected that Zelensky pledged he would end. She is completely dodging the question about censorship. Like anyone who spoke for peace or against Zelensky would be shut down in the least or disappeared. What nonsense. The solid answer to national divisions of this kind - basically war - has been from the US/UN/NATO - to divide countries. Yet for some reason Ukraine on Russia's border does not invoke that solution. I think this lady is an opportunist, or perhaps cannot get out of the country and is being threatened or cannot find any other way to survive this situation. This lady seems to be hear to put a pretty Ivanka Trump looking voice to the conflict. As I see it, the answer is to partition Ukraine as the UN would have partitioned any other violented divided country in the world down the line where the demographics change between East//Russian and West/Ukrainian ... there really is no other way - because if Ukraine "wins" for example, there are still all those people in Eastern Ukraine that presumably the Ukrainian military will feel they have to run out of the country or kill. If Russia wins it is slightly easier - Ukraine will turn into a small landlocked rump state - but the war and violence will end.

The odd thing to me - the thing that does not add up when one listens to Freddie's comment here - 9:00 Ukraine is committed to their independence so much that they want to ethnically cleanse the Donbas and Crimea of what are essentially Ukrainians? What kind of country does that - i.e. declares war on its own citizens? Ukraine is in a war to expand into the Donbas and Crimea, based on the technicality that their current boundaries include those areas - but they are not really Ukrainian. It is sort of like Israel wanting to have its own nation in the middle of raging Islamic Fundamentalists, or even the Kurds wanting freedom from what are basically the same brand of Islamic Fundamentalists. The wars of Liberation are on the side of Israel, the Kurds, and the Ethnic Russians in Ukraine. Russia tried to compromise by asking for the Donbas to be given autonomous status, in the Minsk agreement - but the West has admitted they never intended to live up to the Minsk Agreement - they were stalling to arm Ukraine so it could essentially steal that land from the people who lived there and call it the democracy of Ukraine ... very ugly and cynical of them - at the same time murdering 14,000 people in that war. This is really a total mind-fug of the entire world to justify a war against Russia and to expand the West into Ukraine for resources ... and it's great now because all the Ukrainians are gone or dead. This is massively screwed up.

It is terrifying how stupid the USA has been ... and as the leader of the West, why is the US the worst society, living standard, citizen metrics ... this is the most terrifying time to live as an American. I think initially Russia made a grave error by attacking Kiev first thus making this look to the world like an invasion of taking all of Ukraine instead of trying to fix an injustice against a minority Russia population in the Donbas. I don't know - maybe they had to do that, or thought they had to, but I think it allowed the US propaganda - which today is so powerful it is terrifying. There is literally only a small handful of people willing to stand up and broadcast the facts that Americans are not able to hear from the mainstream media, and they are relegated to You-Tube, blogs, and other channels to small numbers of people - and they could easily have been shut up or cut off. The reality we hear in the media, and from major figures in social media, it is so pro-US, there is absolutely no room for facts, discussion, and it has turned dangerous to actually be democratic and free speech in the land of the free - America. WTF?

There is no real truth in such a political situation, especiallt when social media can create such rifts over stuff. So, on the one hand relgions often get to the point ( and honestly I dislike agreeing with Dawkins because normally I don't agree with him or like him ) where they put religious dogma above the truth ... Copernicus for example. In Covid in the middle of a massive possible plague of death, they have to make a best effort to react to it. In America that is particularly difficult because Americans are in general unruly and ignorant. But also because a huge percentage of Americans do not have medical insurance or any sick days in their jobs. That made the lockdown a necessity because otherwise sick people or people infectious and about to get sick or still contagious would be everywhere. I don't think some people seem to remember the dead bodies everywhere in NYC. Anyway, just my opinion or reaction to what he meant.

Its it fair to say that Russia, by attacking all of Ukraine initially, allowed themselves to ignite nationalism in Ukraine in a way that would not have happened had they focused their special military operation on just Donbas and had a different strategy to get behind the lines and fortify the Donbas while saying they were doing this for the independence/autonomy of the Donbas, and were allowing Ukrainians who wanted to do leave for heartland Ukraine?

It seems like the bottom line here is that US gambled and it came up snake-eyes for Ukraine ... and the Ukrainian people - who voted for Zelensky because he said he would stop the war in Donbas - are the innocent suckers caught in the middle - and this war will go on and on until Ukraine is not worth defending any more. We should have done nothing more. Then the crisis broke out on February 22nd 2014, we should have recognized the severity of the situation and we should have backed off and worked with the Russians to create some sort of modus vivendi where the Russians felt that they weren't threatened by NATO in Ukraine and that Ukraine could remain a neutral state. But, instead what we did was we doubled-down. Then over the course of 2021 the situation deteriorated and on December 17th, 2021, the Russians sent a letter to NATO and to President Biden, demanding that they get in writing that Ukraine would not become part of NATO. What we should have done then is backed off and tried to work out some sort of modus vivendi where the Russians were satisfied with the situation in Ukraine and the threat of war was taken off the table. Instead we told the Russians, nothing is going to change. We are going to bring Ukraine into NATO, and we were working very hard to do that - despite the conventional wisdom in the West which says we were not. We were working to bring Ukraine into NATO.

  26. The lockdown gave a chance to those who wanted to avoid C19 to be able to do so. Did anyone define "lockdown", or what reasonable policies might be? It made sense to me, and of course there are stupities in its implementation as there always are with anything people do. I wore my mask and stayed as distant as I could from people I don't know. I still have not gotten C19 3/5 years later. Meanwhile people online tell me I am going to die in the next 2 years because I got vaccinated. Someone, far from censoring the public, is putting out so much noise and BS that it seems like they want people to die.

Russia did not "invade" Ukraine per se, with the intention of taking over Ukrainian, and Mearsheimer pretty well proves this. Russia's special military operation was a gesture to force the West to negotiate over Ukraine, which we refused to do.

  32. I disagree with Peter Hitchens. We do not have experience yet as a species with this new found level of social interaction, and I think it is very reasonable for the government, or academia, or a citizens panel, or some body to technically analyze what goes on and how social media works. The problem comes with the fact that when an organization is set up to do such a thing, the people in it, and the people around it will always be trying to leverage it for their own means - and no one is watching and auditing them. In the same way that a virus like C19 can blaze through the global population, we call ideas or proganda viral, and it can have a huge effect before governments have idea what is going on if they do not monitor social media. Why do virtually all countries have censors on their TV shows? Why do bodies have defenses and immune systems? So, does the question then become - how is this to be done or implemented, and should it be hidden from the public that anything is being done at all. Because if we do not know that something is being done, and we are being manipulated to some extent, we become nothing more than lab animals or cattle.

I think Russia's initial attack, it's Special Military Operation ... like America's Police Actions ... were to stick with the idea that this was a police action to assist defending Ethnic Russian minorities in Ukraine that were being Ethnically Cleansed and Genocided in order that the Ukrainian oligarchs could expand Ukraine's land and domination. To me this makes Ukraine a lying, hypocritical country, and a greater threat than Russia in the region. Ukraine is just pretending to be a democracy to fool us Americans into helping them, when it is killing its own people, and then NOT following the promises of those elected either. Zelensky promised to end the hostilities in the Donbas, but the OSCE reports indicate that shelling from the Ukrainian side to the Donbas increased radically. Ukraine also said it was trying to defend its territorial integrity, when in fact Ukraine never had territorial integrity because it was trying to conquer and subdue a population that wanted at least autonomy if not independence if not to be part of Russia.

Freddie seems to be constantly pushing the fear of Russia, which seems to be me to be more a product of decades, almost a century of our Western vilification - mostly for the purposes of ginning up support for war of aggression against Russia instead of just defense against Russia based on any actual historic evidence that Russia is expansionist. On the other hand is what Russia did and what many perceive Russia as having done during the Cold War. But then the rational though and argument fades off before we go into the history of the number of times Russia has been attacked from the West and the scale of the damage that has caused in terms of Russian lives and the Russian cultural consciousness. I guess I don't understand why anyone's messages would go out to any but their followers - or per some algorithm - which always sucks - to some group of people who were computed to be interested in the same things. I am newer to Twitter than this guy and I already get too many messages from the people I follow to really follow them - and much of what they say is kind of useless patter. So, if I were to get a message from this guy showing up in my Twitter feed, the odds are that I would ignore it. So, what did this really mean? To me it means that there are hidden proprietary means of promoting and demoting people and their messages and points of view. In certain respects i think that is a good or necessary thing - considering the old saying that a lie can get around the world before the truth can put its shoes on. The social media stuff is dangerous, and what is more dangerous is having the workings of these algorithms be private and proprietary - and not known about or understood. So, my next question would be - what was it this guy was saying that was getting so much negative attention that he was talked about, and that action was taken against him. Then if that is true - what was the effect, and why should be get promoted any more than I should or anyone else. Why is he complaining?

Yet when it comes to school lockdowns a study in Sweden was being used to justify lifting lockdowns in the US. Again ... the Right-wing dementia enters social media, and the argument is free speech - or the freedom for a massive troll army to be used to manipulate public opinion. So - again it boils down to either doing moderation by imperfect but competent people, versus leaving the moderation up to the loudest most numerous troll voices.

The thing is that this "Great Barrington Declaration" might have been a great idea, or there might have been a lot of reasons for why it it might not work and would be a gamble with people's lives to implement. There is a whole thing about this in business Six Sigma, about process improvement and all the factors that go into that. It could have been too complex, or too much for people to actually do, or all kinds of things. Instead of having a reasoned discussion thsee things turn into food fights on Twitter - so again - yeah, I come down against this guy, because you need to prove your case, otherwise all you do is to create noise. Sounds like he created a lot of noise, amplified by the right-wing nuts who were not posting very rational fact-based science on lockdowns, but instead doing the equivalent of rioting ... like Jan 6th.

  50. Here is a funny story about the AI suppressing of tweets. This is from the chat forum company Disqus. I was posting a comment and was getting repeatedly censored because I was using the term Nazi - while talking about Nazis. Then another time the discuss was about guns, and I was talking about automatic guns or pistols that needed to be cocked. Those comments were refused because presumably the term cock was pornographic. If this is the AI Elon Musk says we have to fear, I'd say he doesn't know what he is talking about.
