If the United States is a failing state, and that really coincides with the takeover of the government and the economy by the super-wealthy through corporations and lobbying coupled with defunding the population by lowering wages, exporting jobs and racist manipulations in the media ... why do all the right-winger seem to think that the cure for that is more Republicanism, i.e. Trump? It seems a lot more likely to me that what we see ( like Trump cleverly said ) in the media is not what is happening in the world. That is the reality presented by our TV/movies world and the corporate news media is a facade, as is the idea that the Democratic Party is an honest opposition party when it is beholden for its very existence on corporate funding and charity from rich people. After all everyone has to make a living and at the root of these issues always is how people fit into the economy and what their rank and status is. When there is no other place to run, authors and journalists are not revolutionaries, they are working class people for the most part that need to make enough money to play the big shot celebrities and pay for their families - meaning that as time goes by the limit of journalism is going to be to serve the "corporatocracy". Not to mention the podcasters as well.

30:00 - I think a Taser was used .... From Wikipedia: Officers attempted to subdue Blake, and two officers used tasers on him. My point here is that although Sam decries the hyperbolic and quick take on things ... what is this and this kind of language and overloaded comment by the same thing he is criticizing in others? Nothing justifies burning down half a city. Was half a city burned down?

@shinryusaiha Thanks for the vote of confidence, it would be better than this obsequious right-wing apologetic nonsense.

8:27 - If you are going to say that the New York Times can be counted on to get crucial things wrong, you better fucking qualify that statement because it is not something you can build a conversation on until you explain what you mean. Otherwise its just another right-wing extremist like Trump saying something like "the failing New York Times" ... meaning everything that criticizes him is failing. Sam you gotta stand for something because you play this game of implying there is a middle ground between good and evil. I initially was interested in your opinions because of your strong stand against radical Islam on the Bill Maher show with Ben Affleck, not that I have any idea why Ben Affleck was so pro Islam. Everything I have heard from you since has been wishy-washy and very afraid to offend your right-wing viewers and guests.

@martinlutherkingjr.5582 Not sure where you got all that. But yes, the government is the tool of the plutocrats that basically sees all of us as their property and slaves.

@shinryusaiha Interesting comment, it makes Sam kind of a hypocrite if you think about it. He says he is all for the discussion and distribution of ideas, and yet he keeps such strict control over his content - because it is borderline brainwashing propaganda and can't stand real debate.

@martinlutherkingjr.5582 No way Trump is a Democrat, or a democrat.

@kw1199 > When rich white prep school kids put on their black masks and go to black neighborhoods to play revolutionary

Yes, everything is upside down in terms of what to do about police murder. I heard Sam's show a couple weeks about justifying and normalizing any and all actions police take and denying there is a problem with violence from police. I was pretty much shocked and it changed my opinion of Sam to the negative. For someone who presents himself as one who takes language and context very seriously what I am hearing lately is a lot of what are almost dog-whistles ... like "No one is more anti-Trump than me, BUT ...."

What do the leadership/ruling class of Russia, China and the USA have in common cause? The answer is that they want to rid the population of the idea of democracy and that they have the right to question or ask anything of their rulers. Therefore it is the most highest priority of the people of these countries to re-establish democracy and then cut their countries up into smaller pieces so they do not have the power to "1984-us" (verb transitive) into a fake face-off as in OCEANIA, EURASIA, EASTASIA --- keeping all their populations in check by a perpetual war that maintains the power structure and the boot in the face of people to remind them they are not people.

10:51 - I Donald Trump does something right then it's our duty to say so. That's one of those Hitler was a vegetarian and treated his dogs very well statements ... you cannot divorce anything that Donald Trump does from the context of who he is, what he has done and the trajectory he has put the country on. For instance, standing up to the Islamic sensibilities in the Middle East is a positive action in my opinion, but should Donald Trump get some kind of credit for that? He sure could not have allowed that to happen had we not had the Iraq war and totally scrambled the ant-hill of extreme radical Islam over there - and yet he blames the Bushes for useless wars. The most you can do is acknowledge it within whatever context any given person might believe. Given Donald Trump credit implies that there is positive leadership in whatever action you are discussing, and that is just not true.

@Jason-rl7nf "whites are inherently racist" And look how clearly Trump proved that.

NPR said looting is a moral imperative? Where was this? OK, In Defense of Looting by Vicky Osterwild I'll have to see what that is all about. One book does not mean "The Left" There are a lot of, most of the Left, that does not believe this, like me for example. And - who knows where that comes from. There are tons and tons of tricks from the Right, including funding the most nutso people for the Left to make them look bad. Notice like whenever we see a Democrat shown on TV they are sloppy, almost always minorities, almost always speaking not very good English. That's not the Left, that is what a certain segment of the people who manage our media want to present as the Left to maintain their grip on the media in the face of demands for real Democracy.

How big a difference does it make that the man who was shot by police 7 times in the back is still alive. His father announced on August 25 that Blake was paralyzed from the waist down and that doctors do not yet know if it would be permanent. He also suffered a gunshot wound to one arm and damage to his stomach, kidney, and liver; he had to have most of his small intestines and colon removed.

The Left???? The story was "One Author's Controversial View: In Defense Of Looting" by Natalie Escobar www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2020/08/27/906642178/one-authors-argument-in-defense-of-looting From a show called Code Switch - Race In Your Face The show admits they got things wrong ... re-writing the story with this explanation: This story was updated on Sept. 1, 2020. The original version of this story, which is an interview with an author who holds strong political views and ideas, did not provide readers enough context for them to fully assess some of the controversial opinions discussed. The piece starts out like this: In the past months of demonstrations for Black lives, there has been a lot of condemnation of looting. Whether it was New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo saying that stealing purses and sneakers from high-end stores in Manhattan was "inexcusable," or St. Paul, Minn., Mayor Melvin Carter saying looters were "destroy[ing] our community," police officers, government officials and pundits alike have denounced the property damage and demanded an end to the riots. Both Cuomo and Carter denouncing looting are Democrats.
