4:51 - Just a quibble, but I think the people of a far-flung future would be smart enough and comfortable enough to remove their crazy nose recyclers before they kiss! LOL ... that scene is pure silly.

The aged Charlotte Rampling is exactly how I envisioned the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam . that much is perfect. Bardem seems like a pretty good Stilgar.

Arrival was a beautifully and well done ... nothing. There was no there, there, but it was done extraordinarily ... kind of a meme for the present day ... and lot of distracting nothing, and Bladerunner 2 stunk.

I read the book when it came out, and it is byzantine ornate writing that provokes the imagine, but ultimately it is escapist fantasy at its best. The first movie a lot of it I liked and was beautiful even, but I did not like when I saw it mostly because I had so many preconceived notions from the book. Coming back and watching it years later it ended up expanding my imaginings from the book and I was comfortable enough to realize it was a favorite, even if it was escapist drivel. I am not sure about this upcoming new version. I don't picture Timonthee Chalumet as anything like Paul Atreides.

Another thing about the original book and the whole concept .... physics says there is just no way a sandworm could exist. Unless the sand was like styrofoam pellets in a beanbag chair perhaps. There is too much weight, density, friction and pressure for a creature like that to exist, must less push itself through the ground. It ruins the whole idea of Dune to realize, so I guess we just go on and forget it, but a story that relies on that is not really so great.
