  4. I love to listen to Hitchens sometimes, but when he drones on about the Left Wing Stasi ... it's BS. All repressive regimes are right-wing - that is they are undemocratic. The split is along lines of democracy or autocracy, and basically ... Fascism = Capitalism - Democracy Socialism = Capitalism + Democracy It makes no sense for the Left to embrace autocracy, because if they do, they are the Right. There is a zone of autocracy close to the middle where a Right-wing autocracy can be good for people - such as China which has raised their people from poverty tby regimenting them for "the greater good". Then there is the Taliban which is a right-wing totalitarian autocracy for the benefit of an elite religious few that is doing nothing or their people and is as far from democratic as can be. The US borders on a Right-wing autocracy, where the elites in power used to be a least a little sympathetic to the people, but as they elites have grown and globalism has put them in competitition with corrupt aristocratic elites around the world, American elites want what their global brothers have and are taking it out on Americans.

I think most Brits, like most Americans, do not see the thing that is attacking them and destoying their society .... the American plutocratic fascist elites who can hide and pull the strings anonymously while using the media to fracture the ability of the public to crystallize into political unity. Look at what the US has done to Britain by pulling it out of the EU, and now destroying its NHS. And we will do the same thing to the EU as this Ukraine thing unfolds.

Peter is an amazing Conservative, a conservative that I as an extreme Progressive can agree with on almost everything, and what I don't agree with I can understand him and follow his LOGIC, which he does have. For instance, one recent statement he was talking about socialism and how at whatever he called a mature age he reasoned it was utopian and would fail because it depended on changing human nature. I replied to him on Twitter ( have yet to get an answer ) that all human society has depended in controlling or changing human nature, or creating a space ( some might even say a "safe space ) for people to allow their better natures to express themselves without fear of death or destruction. Further, Peter believes in religion strongly, which is all about changing human nature for the better. So, have I found a contradiction in PH's worldview, or a bias against socialism, or is Peter just wrong? ;-)

  8. Russia is not Left-Wing. Relax, I am Left-wing and I agree with Peter. There were maybe tens to hundreds of times in the last 10 years to avoid this war, and all the West/US did was to double down and provoke it more. That said, Putin started it, and either blew it bigtime, or doesn't have the media power some say he does in the West, or just plain doesn't know what he's doing. So many good debates on this, and the logical factual narratives are always on the Hitchens, Mearsheimer, Cohen, Kennan , etc side -- yet in these Oxford-Style rigged debates they always lose to the establishment line. Both sides have to find a way to detach from their irrational extremists and find a way to realize that both sides are being played just as well as Putin was played in order that there be no social concensus on how America is broken and how to fix it.
